Minutes
February 14, 1994
Members Present: Weldon Cannon, Diana Crawford, Geri Donworth,
Evelyn Himes, Iva Nail, Robert Nail, Helen
Payton, Jean Whitener, and Nina Winters.
Staff Present: Rick Herold, Julia Wakeley, and Katherine
Thompson.
Guest Present: George Green, Professor UTA, Lawrence Jernigan.
Call to Order: The meeting was called to order at 10:10 A.M.
I. 1994 PROJECTS - MEMBER REPORTS
A. OLD IRON BRIDGE TIME CAPSULE - Nina Winters numerated the
items to be placed in the time capsule at the Ironbridge
site (photos and news clippings) . Members identified
people in the photos.
B. ORAL HISTORY - Betty Fuller commented there were no
additional interviews.
C. HISTORICAL MARKER PROJECTS - Weldon Cannon reported on
his progress obtaining the following historical markers:
1 . Adam Euless(buried in Oakwood Cemetery, Ft. Worth) :
Contributions will be solicited from the City of
Euless and the Tarrant County Historical
Commission.
2. Euless United Methodist Church: Funding for the
smaller $400-500 marker, or the $800 larger marker,
will be provided by the church.
D. FUNDING - Geri Donworth reviewed the following sources
for funding:
* Community Betterment options in water bill
mailings
* Budget request
* A print or painting to be raffled at Arbor
Daze. The committee discussed the possibility
of the donation of one of Norma Lively's
prints or paintings of Old Ironbridge to be
raffled. Evelyn Himes made a motion to
solicit a donation of a print or painting from
Norma. The motion was seconded by Nina

Winters. Iva Nail volunteered to meet with
Norma to seek-the donation. The committee
passed the motion.
Diana Crawford led a discussion of other funding projects such
as;
* Calendars containing photos of local sites to
be sold at Arbor Daze and during the year.
* Christmas ornaments featuring 4 picture of a
Euless historical scene.
* Note cards containing Euless photos.
Diana will gather cost information regarding the projects
discussed.
E. COMPUTER MAPPING - Diana Crawford reported that the city
of Euless has authorized time for David Allen's
computerized mapping of the early 1900 Euless area map
(Weldon Cannon) , the 1940's Bill Byer's map and other
mapping selected by the Historical Committee.
F. PHOTO COLLECTION - Jean Whitener displayed two poster
board photo collages of Euless Historical sites.
G. GEORGE GREEN, UTA Professor, displayed copies of photos
from the Northeast Tarrant County Junior College files
collected by Duane Gage to be used in his HEB area book
which will be published by Eakin Publishing Co.
H. ARBOR DAZE - Diana Crawford led a discussion of plans for
the Historical Committee's booth at Arbor Daze(April
22,23,24) . A motion by Iva nail, seconded by Jean
Whitener, for the committee to sponsor an Arbor Daze
booth was passed by the committee. Members and other
volunteers will donate 31 hours of time to serve as
hosts/hostesses at the booth. Chairperson Crawford
distributed sign-up sheets for each committee member to
select first, second, and third choices for their three
hour host/hostess assignments.
Preferences for either a covered or an uncovered booth
were discussed. Displays will feature photo picture
boards and hands-on antique objects. Raffle tickets will
be sold if a print or painting is donated by Norma
Lively. The committee also discussed the sale of
cassette tapes and the possibility of showing video tapes
(i.e. visits to historical sites) and/or slide
projections of photo collection reproduced by fireman
Frank Thomas. The possibility of providing a special
short program for the 650 fourth graders who are
scheduled to attend Arbor Daze, Friday, April 22nd, was
discussed, but the decision was not to attempt to provide
a program for such a large group of young children.

II. OLD BUSINESS
A. Hgtjan - A motion was made by Jean Whitener, and seconded
by Evelyn Whitener, that the Historical Committee
authorize a letter to be written by Diana Crawford to the
Euless Street Naming Committee requesting a future street
to be named in honor of Lawrence Jernigan's grandfather
Dock McGinnis. The motion passed unanimously.
B. Goals and Projects:
1. Summer meetings - The group discussed
scheduling/non-scheduling meetings in June,
July and August.
2. Contributing a History Corner article in the
Star Telegram each month.
3. Providing a Speaker's Bureau to be publicized
in the monthly water bill mailings.
4. Updating the archives file at the Euless
library.
5. Compiling a data base information file of
events, people, and addresses of historical
interest.
6. Compiling a pictorial history book of Euless.
III. NEW BUSINESS
A. Overview - Diana Crawford gave an overview of the
Grapevine Depot opening and the Old Bedford Ringing In
ceremonies.
The meeting was adjourned at 12:15 P.M.
