March 21, 1994
Members Present: Mazie Eden, Jean Whitener, Evelyn Himes, Iva
Nail, Robert Nail , Weldon Cannon, Bill Fuller,
Helen Payton.
Staff Present: Rick Herold and Julia Wakeley.
Guest Present: George Green, Professor UTA.
Call to Order: The meeting was called to order at 10:10 A.M.
I. 1994 PROJECTS - MEMBER REPORTS
A. OLD IRON BRIDGE CAPSULE - Bill Fuller stated that
newspaper and additional photos are being collected.
B. HISTORICAL MARKER PROJECTS - Weldon Cannon suggested that
the "Adam Euless" historical marker be in front of the
city buildings; similar to what the city of Hurst has
done. The marker would be 2'X 3' and cost approximately
$850.00. We would need a sponsor. Weldon reported that
we are on track.
Bill Fuller is checking with the Texas Highway Department
to locate the marker, that was at the end of South Main,
which was moved due to construction.
C. PHOTO COLLECTION - Jean Whitener reported that we are in
process of re-framing photos of the lumber yard.
D. COMPUTER MAPPING - Rick Herold reported that David Allen
may attend the next meeting on April 11, 1994 .
E. ARBOR DAZE - Bill Fuller led the discussion of plans for
the Historical Committee's booth on April 22 , 23 , and
24th. Sign up sheets were turned in as to first, second
and third choices of working the booth. The size of the
booth will be 10' X 20' and will be at the same location
as last year. A motion was made by Mazie Eden, seconded
by Iva Nail and unanimously passed.
The following is a list of items to display at the booth:
- Two numbered posters(8X10) may be purchased by
visitors at the purchase price of $10.00 as
discussed.
- Plough that slaves used = Evelyn Himes
- Dinner Bell = Mazie Eden
- Berry Box Maker = Weldon Cannon
- Signs with explanation = Julia Wakeley
- Iron Bridge Clips (bookmarkers Iron City?)
- Board or Plague = Bill Fuller will make.
- Information on pictorial history of Euless; a sign
up sheet will be at the booth.
- Article in newspapers along with a brief biography
on Norma by Katherine Thompson/Iva Nail.
- Receipt book = Julia Wakeley
- Feature story (Wednesday before Arbor Daze) in Fort
Worth Star Telegram and Mid-Cities News.
The drawing time and ticket price of the printing, that
Norma Lively is donating, was discussed. The tickets
will be $2.00 or 3 for $5.00. The drawing will be at
4:00 P.M. on Sunday, April 24th. A dozen roses, with
Norma present for photos on the stage, was also
discussed.
II. OLD BUSINESS
A. George Green, UTA Professor, stated that Dyane Gage at
TCJA has photos on the History of Euless. George is to
look at a "new" Handbook of Texas. Weldon was asked to
do the write up on the City of Euless.
The meeting was adjourned at 11:25 A.M.
