I. 1994 PROJECTS - MEMBER REPORTS A. CALLOWAY CEMETERY - Bill Byers reported that the Boy Scout group which plans to record the names and dates of those buried at Calloway Cemetery must first lay-out the cemetery in grids. Actual mapping and listing will begin in the next few weeks. B. PHOTO COLLECTION - Jean Whitener stated that the committee's expense for copies of Archival photos duplicated by R.L. Davis and Associates is $2.00-$2.50. A notebook of photos available for purchase will be displayed at the Arbor Daze Historical Committee Booth. Visitors may order duplicates for $10.00 each. The committee's cost is $7.50. Duplicates will be delivered to Julia Wakeley's office where they may be picked-up by those who purchase copies. Booth hosts/hostesses will record the number of the purchaser's personal check or the word "cash" for a cash purchase. Telephone numbers will also be recorded. II. OLD BUSINESS A. STREET NAME CHANGE - Diana Crawford introduced David Allen, GIS Manager, who reported that plans to change the name of West haven Drive (located on the south side of Airport Freeway near the bowling alley) to (Doc) McGinnis Drive are moving forward. The short street located on part of the original McGinnis property has no homes or businesses; therefore, the actual changes will only require the replacement of two signs. Diana Crawford will draft a letter requesting the name change. Subsequent to approval by the Street Naming Committee and the City Council, Mr. Allen will finalize the plans and supervise the actual physical arrangements for the completion of the project. He will also request a proclamation from the city council. The name change request was initiated by Mr. Jernigan, a descendent of Doc McGinnis, the turn of the century owner of the property. A motion to recommend changing the name of West Haven Drive to Doc McGinnis Drive because of its historical significance was made by Betty Fuller and seconded by Jean Whitener. The motion was passed unanimously by those present. • B. EULESS MAPS - David Allen displayed copies of 1895 and 1940 maps reflecting the growth of Euless. The maps will be displayed at the Arbor Daze booth and be retained for our historical archives. Members were asked to correct any errors, etc. on the maps prior to publication. C. ARBOR DAZE: 1. Diana Crawford listed items to be displayed at the Historical Committee's booth. A plow used at Ten Oaks (Ed Cromer's farm) , a ten gallon J. Trigg Grade A raw milk can which was regularly brought to the Euless Tennessee Dairies Plant for processing, and a brass candy scale used at Fuller Brothers' Grocery from the late 1930's to 1949. 2. A drawing for the Gazebo watercolor donated by Norma Lively will also be sponsored by the Historical Committee. Tickets will be sold for $2.00 each or 3 for $5.00 . Each member received 21 tickets. Names and phone numbers of purchasers will be recorded on the reverse side of one of the double tickets. The drawing will be held on the stage between performances. Bill Byers donated a 36"X45" case for paintings to be presented to Mrs. Lively. 3. Mrs. Crawford circulated a schedule of hours the booth will be open. Members were requested to select hours they wished to serve as host/hostesses. III. NEW BUSINESS A. Members were informed of the April 26th Public Hearing to consider a request by the owners of the property at the southeast corner of Main and Highway 10 to demolish the brick house (formerly adjacent to Fuller Brothers' Grocery Store) for construction of a church. The house has historical significance as the first brick home. If funds were available, the home could possibly be moved to a city owned location. Members were encouraged to be present at the hearing to reflect committee support of the preservation of historical structures in the community. B. The committee also discussed the mechanics of suspending summer meetings. Section V of Historical Committee By Laws mandates monthly meetings. The meeting was adjourned at 12 : 10 P.M. Respectfully submitted by Betty Fuller, Secretary Historical Preservation Committee BF/bw
