Euless Historical Preservation Committee
Minutes
June 26, 1994
Members Present: Diana Crawford, Geri Donworth, Iva Nail, Robert Nail ,
Helen Payton, and Jean Whitener.
Call to Order: The meeting was called to order at 6:40 P.M.
I. DEMOLITION OF EULESS' FIRST BRICK HOUSE
A. Diana Crawford updated members that plans to remove the house are
in the final stages and, following site plan approval from the
development committee and city council, Taco Bell will demolish the
house the first week of July.
Geri Donworth motioned to request that a quantity of brick from the
house, as well as the iron railings from the porch, be saved and
stored for future historical projects. The motion was seconded by
Robert Nail and was passed unanimously.
A motion to ask Rick Herold for the use of a city photographer to
photograph the house extensively prior to and during the
demolition(in black and white film) was made by Robert Nail and
seconded by Jean Whitener. The motion was passed unanimously by
those present.
Next, a motion to submit the list of sites viewed during the
committee field trip and deemed historically important by this
committee to the city planner, with the request that notification
be made to the committee of any business arising relating to those
properties, was made by Geri Donworth and seconded by Helen Payton.
The motion was passed unanimously by those present.
II. NEW STREET NAME REQUEST
A. Diana Crawford updated the members on the status of the committee's
request to rename Westhaven Drive to Dock McGinnis Drive. The
request has been approved by the street naming committee and final
approval is pending notification to those property owners and city
council approval. Committee will be advised by the city secretary
as steps occur.
III. PHOTO VENDOR
A. Jean Whitener updated the members on Big Photo Lab's decision to
not print photos for the committee in tea future due to the large
commercial nature of their business. Jean will look at other
possible film labs in the area. Big Photo Lab chose not to bill
the committee for the last order of pictures and negatives
processed.
IV. OLD BUSINESS
No old business reported.
V. NEW BUSINESS
A. Discussed phone request of Bill Klozik for background information
on the name of the street his home is located - Ector Drive.
Robert Nail informed the committee that the streets in the Midway
Park area were named after Texas Counties. He will follow up with
Mr. Kolzik.
B. Committee members, Iva Nail , Robert Nail and Helen Payton, advised
they would be out of town for the September meeting, along with
Bill Byers. Therefore, there is a lack of quorum for that meeting.
Additionally, the regularly scheduled October meeting falls on a
holiday. A motion was made by Robert Nail to combine the September
and October meeting by meeting the first Monday in October, October
3rd. The motion was seconded by Helen Payton and was passed
unanimously.
The meeting was adjourned at 7:17 P.M.
