HomeMy WebLinkAbout1995-02-13 EULESS HISTORICAL PRESERVATION COMMITTEE MINUTES FEBRUARY 13, 1995 The meeting of the Euless Historical Preservation Committee was called to order at 10:12 a.m. Members Present Weldon Cannon, Diana Crawford, Mazie Eden, Betty Fuller, Evelyn Nimes, Helen Payton, Jean Whitener, Geri Donworth, Iva Nail, and Robert Nail Staff Present Rick Herold - Director of Community Services, Johnny Green - Superintendent of Parks, and Julia Wakeley - Recreation Manager Guests Present Glenn Walker, City Councilman Approval of Minutes The minutes of the January 17, 1995, meeting were approved as written. OLD BUSINESS Item No. 1 : Member Reports Jean Whitener recommended that the committee order 3 1/2" frosted white Christmas ornaments with sepia prints of Euless historical sites for resale as an additional money generating project. Diana Crawford will contact Beverly Smith for exact cost figures to be presented at the March meeting. Locations discussed for the sale of the ornaments were water office, recreation center and library. Diana Crawford displayed samples of the Historical Committee Fuller House "Thank You" cards. Members discussed the purchase of blank cards for fundraising. Fifty packages (5 historical site scenes--2 of each scene) cost approximately $213.00. Envelopes are an additional $40.00. The cost of 200 packages is only $291.00 plus $185.00 for envelopes. The committee will decide on the number to be purchased at the March meeting. The Mid-Cities News article regarding the Audie Murphy Rodeo was distributed. The possibility of displaying rodeo memorabilia and/or photos of the event at the committee's Arbor Daze booth was discussed. Betty Fuller will contact George Brown (Stephenville, 817-968-2268) who supervised and ran the rodeo for Ray Woods to solicit photos and memorabilia. The Historical Preservation Committee will have two booths at the Arbor Daze celebration. The Preservation booth will be located in the premium tent. Members will also staff the food booth donated by Taco Bell. All proceeds will be donated to the Historical Committee's Preservation Fund. Betty Fuller reported that oral histories by Willie Byers and Jennie Payton had been recorded. Robert Nail made a motion that National Register designation forms and relevant information be completed on the Fuller House and forwarded to Austin. The official State Commission response will be given to the Fuller House Work Committee which will make recommendation for final bid decisions for restoration of the home. Evelyn Himes seconded the motion, and the motion was unanimously approved. The Fuller House floor plan prepared by Architect Roddy Boggus will be included in the portfolio sent to the Texas Historical Commission. The Historical Preservation Committee will serve "thank you" snacks to the 14 city employees at the Midway Park's shop at 6:30 a.m. Thursday, March 2. The snacks are a token of appreciation for the work involved in relocating the Fuller House adjacent to the Ruth Millican Center. Diana Crawford circulated Euless city maps made by David Allen. She reported that these early day maps could become part of an interactive history of Euless computer program. The committee will endeavor to solicit the donation of a 16 megabyte RAM computer (w/CD player, 1375" color monitor) to be used by Euless residents who wish to obtain information about the early history of the city. NEW BUSINESS Item 2: Arbor Daze Booths Taco Bell booth Historical Preservation Committee booth in premium tent Diana Crawford gave each member sign-up sheets and urged the membership to enlist the assistance of friends and/or groups to serve as hosts/hostesses at the Taco Bell and Historical Committee's booths. The addition of a food booth will require many more volunteer workers than were needed last year. Adjournment There being no further business to discuss, the meeting adjourned at 11 :22 a.m. Chair
