HomeMy WebLinkAbout1995-05-08 Euless Historical Preservation Committee Minutes May 8, 1995 The meeting of the Euless Historical Preservation Committee was called to order at 10:20 A.M. with Chairman Diana Crawford presiding. Members Present Bill Byers, Weldon Cannon, Diana Crawford, Geri Donworth, Betty Fuller, Helen Payton and Jean Whitener Staff Present Julia Wakeley Approval of the Minutes The minutes of the April 10 meeting were approved. I. OLD BUSINESS A. Member Reports 1. Geri Donworth - Geri reported that the contact person with Kay Bailey Hutchinson's office no longer worked there. She will continue to pursue this lead and will contact Roddy Boggus for information regarding additional sources and for lists of foundations, etc. who have funds which may be obtained through grants. Diane Crawford stated that the committee has the need for a full time grant seeker. 2. Jean Whitener and Diana discussed the cost of reproducing the 1903 Euless school book which may be prohibitive. B. Arbor Daze Reviews 1. Taco Bell Booth sales - The total proceeds from the Taco Bell Booth were $1606.80. After reimbursement of the $150.00 booth fee and distribution to Taco Bell of $401.70 for their costs, E.H.P.C. 's net profit is $1205.10. 2 . Historical Booth note card/cookbook Sales - 13 cookbooks were sold @ $83.00 ($3.00 for EHPC)$104.00 30 pkg of note cards @$6.00 180. 00 284.00 Donation to Methodist Church 65. 00 E.H.P.C. net proceeds 219.00 The committee discussed selling the note cards to the Library and the Water Dept. E.H.P.C. Meeting 050895 pg 2 3 . Historical Display Booth - The committee discussed naming a street Audie Murphy Drive in the proposed Airport Frwy-Hwy 360 Shopping Mall . A different location was discussed for April 26-28 Historical Committee Booth. A booth in an area of higher traffic adjacent to the City Tee-Shirt Booth or the Tree Give Away Booth would be preferred. C. Fuller House Update Diana Crawford announced that T.U. Electric personnel and their families will donate their services for a May 20th work day session to insulate the outside of the Fuller House. , Bill Byers will work with Johnnie Green to pursue the construction of a back wall and other work required prior to the May 20th application of insulation. Press releases will be prepared so that efforts of T.U. personnel will be recognized. Bill Byers will also consult with Johnnie Green regarding the amount of time Green can allocate to the Fuller House renovation. Discussion will include soliciting bids for and completion of the following priorities: - roof - heating/air conditioning - sewer line/water pipe - reconstruction of cornices, etc. - concrete/foundation - chimney Total funds currently available for renovation: $50,000 - Hotel/Motel Tax 20,000 - Betterment Fund 5,164 - contributions Chairman Crawford reviewed the Archi-Texas proposal to provide technical assistance for the restoration of the Fuller House. She stressed the need for a project manager. D. Historical Marker Diana Crawford and Weldon Cannon discussed the historical marker for the man for whom Euless is named. Current plans are for the installation of the marker to coincide with the dedication of the new library. E.H.P.0 Meeting 050895 pg 3 II. NEW BUSINESS A. 1996 E.H.P. Committee Recommendations to City Council The Historical Committee will request: - $25,000 for the completion of the interior of the Fuller Home - To freeze the $3 ,000 budget allocation for historical markers - $5,000 for Historical Site Surveys/Long Range Master Planning/Consultant Services If funded, the Historical Committee will pursue preparing a 5-10 year Master Plan for Historical Preservation in Euless. B. Diana Crawford announced that Professor George Green (U.T. Arlington) first draft copies of his History of HEB ready for proofing. ADJOURNMENT The meeting was adjourned at 11:50 A.M.
