HomeMy WebLinkAbout1995-08-14 Euless Historical Preservation Committee Minutes August 14, 1995 The August 14, 1995 meeting of the Euless Historical Preservation Committee was called to order at 10:15 A.M. with Chairperson Diana Crawford presiding. MEMBERS PRESENT Bill Byers, Diana Crawford, Geri Donworth, Mazie Eden, Betty Fuller, Helen Payton, Jean Whitener and Nina Winters. STAFF PRESENT Director of Community Services Rick Herold and Parks and Leisure Services Manager Julia Wakeley. APPROVAL OF MINUTES The minutes of the July 10, 1995 meeting were approved. I. OLD BUSINESS A. Member Reports 1. Old Iron Bridge - Nina Winters will give the Time Capsule contents to Rick Herold or Julia Wakeley for burial at the Iron Bridge site. 2. Historical Memorabilia - Jean Whitener reported her plans to obtain the 1903 Euless School Yearbook in order to make a copy for the Historical Committee's files. The copy can be used to make additional Yearbooks for fund raising or other projects. 3 . Church Historian - Mazie Eden will have time for additional research on church histories after the birth of her grandchild. 4. Adam Euless Marker - As a member of the Foundation for the new library, Geri Donworth volunteered to serve as a liaison between the Committee and the city in making the decision for the placement/location on the Adam Euless Marker. 5. Diana Crawford reported that she attended a city sponsored meeting of board chairpersons. Those attending received an update/overview of all city ongoing and planned projects. The Mosier Valley Athletic Center was one of the projects discussed. Jean Whitener will contact Vada Johnson to request the loan of old Mosier Valley photos for the Historical Preservation Committee Regular Meeting 081495 page 2 historical collection. Betty Fuller will add Vada Johnson's name to the list of those to be interviewed for oral histories. 6. Fuller House Restoration - Bill Byers reported on the status of all repair projects for the Fuller House. (See attached report from Ray McDonald, Parks and Leisure Services Department. ) Projects: -Wall repair complete -Plumbing roughed in -H/AC partially completed (duct work completed) -Concrete porch completed -Brickwork - Peni Sitani will bid on brick work including cleaning the bricks -Electrical - Electrician O.D. Story will honor his commitment to voluntarily rework the electrical wiring. Diana Crawford will work with Bill Byers to publicize his volunteer project. Exterior electrical outlets must be installed prior to the completion of the masonry work. -Wheelchair access - The committee discussed the placement of the wheelchair access. -Helen Payton has ordered wallpaper and hardware sample books and catalogs to use as resources for restoring the interior. 7 . Diana Crawford reported that Michael Young was the new manager of Taco Bell (our benefactor in moving the Fuller House and sponsor of our Arbor Daze food booth. ) 8. Chairperson Crawford also shared details of the offer of young people with Teen Court commitments to assist with Preservation Committee projects. The committee suggestion is to allow the youth to stack the Fuller House bricks under supervision. II. NEW BUSINESS A. The committee discussed the ramifications of the offer of 15 acres of land in Mosier Valley from representatives of the Wisenbaker Group (Troy Fuller. ) Bill Byers has discussed the legalities of the acceptance with members of the city council. B. Diana circulated copies of correspondence from Jim Euless, a California descendant of the Adam Euless Family.
