MINUTES
OCTOBER 10, 1995
The October 10, 1995 meeting of the Euless Historical
Preservation Committee was called to order at 10 :05 A.M. by
Chairperson Diana Crawford.
MEMBERS PRESENT
Bill Byers, Weldon Cannon, Diana Crawford, Geri Donworth, Betty
Fuller, Evelyn Himes, Iva Nail, Robert Nail , Helen Payton, Jean
Whitener and Nina Winters.
STAFF PRESENT
Bo Bass, Jimmy Beck, Rick Herold, Ray McDonald and Julia Wakeley.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES
The minutes of the September 11, 1995 meeting were approved with
the change of the day of the October meeting from Wednesday to
Tuesday.
I. OLD BUSINESS
A. Bo Bass distributed copies of 4 potential Adam Euless
marker drawings prepared by Denell Wrightson of Phillips,
Swager Associates, architects and engineers for the Euless
Library Project. The committee preferred variation #3 on
the elevation plans. Bo Bass will obtain projected cost
figures for this plan from Phillips, Swager.
Mr. Bass also discussed the selection of a specific site
from several recommended by the architects. Members viewed
the proposed sites on distributed copies of the new Civic
Drive/City Complex landscape maps.
The committee decision was to recommend that the City
Council approve:
1. Elevation design number 3
2 . A sidewalk leading to or adjacent to the marker
3 . A recessed light for the marker
The city is requested to proceed on the recommendations
contingent upon the cost not exceeding $3000.
B. Ray McDonald and Bill Byers reported the following Fuller
House Renovation Update:
1 . Johnnie Green and crew counted 5,446 bricks on site.
Seven thousand three hundred fifty (7, 350) matching
bricks were ordered from Arlington Brick. These
bricks have been delivered.
2. Terry Boaz and crew have completed cornice and facing

woodwork.
3 . Texas Industries donated the cement for the back
porch. This concrete work has been completed. A
letter of appreciation will be sent to TXI for their
generous donation.
4 . By the end of October, masonry work will begin and
reroofing should commence in early or mid-November.
Shingles will be "Weathered Wood. "
5. Bill Byers will contact Mr. Story, the electrician who
volunteered to rewire the home.
6. Jimmy Beck presented a beautiful landscape plan for
the home featuring a country cottage design with
antique roses, magnolia trees from cuttings and other
drought resistant plant suggestions.
7. Rick Herold reported a current balance of $72, 300 in
the Fuller House Fund (including a $40,000 additional
fund allocation for 1996. ) Betty Fuller will send a
note of appreciation to the Mayor and the City Council
for their continued support of this project.
C. Diana Crawford will request a $5,000 allocation from the
city to fund a Historical Site Survey.
D. Rick Herold also reported that the Old Ironbridge Time
Capsule would be placed in the ground prior to the
Committee's November meeting. Photos will be taken of the
exact site of the capsule.
E. Rick also announced that preliminary input for Arbor Daze
booths will be obtained at the December meeting.
F. Vada Johnson was asked to become a member of the Historical
Preservation Committee.
II. MEMBER REPORTS
A. Jean Whitener displayed a reproduction of the Euless 1903
Public School Roster. The Roster will become part of the
archives collection and possibly will be reproduced in
small quantities for the Adam Euless Marker Ceremony.
B. Weldon Cannon distributed revised (final) copies of the
Adam Euless Historical Marker application information to be
submitted to the Texas Historical Commission.
Weldon also shared the following:
1. A copy of a photo of Adam Euless taken at the time of
a 1902 return visit to his Bedford County Tennessee
home. His mother, two sisters and a niece were also
in the photo.
2. Copies of an aerial view of Euless with the location

of the "Gin" superimposed on the photo.
3 . A section of a current Euless City map with 2 sections
of land (250 acres) purchased by Adam Euless from
members of the Trigg Family between 1879 and 1881.
C. Diana Crawford reported that she had received a positive
response from the Euless Street Naming Committee agreeing
to name a street in the proposed mall Audie Murphy Drive.
The street will honor Audie Murphy and the Audie Murphy
rodeos hosted by Ray Woodson on the property in the late
1940's.
D. Diana Crawford urged Betty Fuller to video tape older
residents of the city. The videos will feature 10 - 15
responses to photos or other archival material.
E. Nina Winters is transcribing the Willie Byers Cassette.
F. Helen payton reported $72.00 in notecard sales receipts.
ADJOURNMENT
The meeting adjourned at 12:15 P.M. Committee members
voluntarily toured the proposed site of the Adam Euless Marker
with Kevin Mercer as a guide at the close of the meeting.
