HomeMy WebLinkAbout1996-03-11 Euless Historical Preservation Committee Minutes March 11, 1996 The March 11 , 1996 meeting of the Euless Historical Preservation Committee was called to order at 10:05 A.M. by Chairperson Diana Crawford. Members Present Diana Crawford, Willie Mae McCormick, Vada Johnson, Weldon Cannon, Geri Donworth, Mazie Eden, Nina Winters, Iva Nail , Robert Nail, Betty Fuller and Helen Payton Staff Present Parks and Leisure Services Manager Julia Wakeley and Services Projects Supervisor Ray McDonald Guest Present Troy Fuller Approval of Minutes Minutes of February 12, 1996 meeting were approved after correction to show Julia Wakeley reserving a van for trip to Copeland House and Brett Price is contact person at Taco Bell. I. Old Business A. Member Reports 1 . Weldon Cannon reported that he had joined the Bedford Historical Foundation. Jan Rowe of Bedford Foundation is interested in meeting with the Euless Committee to exchange information and would like for the Euless Committee to visit the restored Bedford School. She is also interested in meeting to exchange ideas on money making projects. Weldon Cannon also reported that in 1931, Jewel C. Posey worked on her thesis at SMU. She went to 135 houses in the Euless area (like a census) and wrote information on all the people. Her thesis is in the library at SMU. Weldon visited with Ms. Posey in Abilene where she now resides. 2. Nina Winters has made arrangements to visit Copeland House at 125 SW Dallas in Grand Prairie at 10: 30 A.M. April 8. After touring Copeland House, arrangements have been made to tour Heritage House, 3025 O'Connor in Irving. Diana will make arrangements for a lunch stop in Irving. Committee will meet at 9:45 A.M. . 3 . Betty Fuller reported she has edited the oral history for EHPC Regular Meeting 031196 page 2 Willie Byers. Helen Payton has picture of Willie Byers to be placed with oral history. B. Fuller House 1 . Ray McDonald reported contractors ready to start work on cornice. Billy Byers (out of town) has samples of Lexan Windows. 2. Jean Whitener was unable to attend meeting, but called to give the name of fence company to contact for bids on fence and ornamental rail for porch: Ornamental Iron, Kelly Evans (817)560-3281. 3 . Iva nail has purchased a light fixture for Fuller House. Fixture purchased at "Old Home Supply" for $125.00. 4. Iva Nail reported Joe Cannon has antiques he will donate to be placed in Fuller House. 5 . Additional names need to be added to Fuller House sign: Troy Fuller Veda Boswell C. Historical Marker Update 1. Letter from Egina Reyes Teva, Historical Commission, stating that application for Adam Euless marker has been received. Application will be reviewed and evaluated in order received. Currently there is a three to four month wait between time received and evaluated. Suggest that marker dedication not be completed until marker is received. D. Arbor Daze 1. Geri Donworth has contacted Brett Price at Taco Bell . Taco Bell will furnish food for booth at Arbor Daze. Prices for food will be same as last year with 5% to Taco Bell for expenses. Geri will cover in writing. 2 . Other discussion regarding Arbor Daze: Need larger signs for booth Need sign with Taco Bell logo Sign-up sheet for workers Selling of note cards at City Souvenir Booth III. New Business 1. Mary Ann Willis from California wants copies of information on Audie Murphy Arena. Diana will send information and pictures. EHPC Regular Meeting 031196 page 3 2 . Nina Winters is starting a cemetery data base. 3 . Vada Johnson reported that St. John's Baptist Church in Mosier Valley will be celebrating 120 years the first Sunday in June.
