HomeMy WebLinkAbout1996-05-13 Euless Historical Preservation Committee Minutes May 13, 1996 The May 13 , 1996 meeting of the Euless Historical Preservation Committee was called to order at 10:00 AM by Vice Chairman Billy Byers. Members Present Bill Byers, Jean Whitener, Vada Johnson, Betty Fuller, Weldon Cannon, Geri Donworth, Nina Winters and Helen Payton Staff Present Rick Herold, Director of Community Services and Julia Wakeley, Leisure Services Manager I. Old Business A. Arbor Daze - Geri Donworth reported a total of $1 ,944.04 taken in - 25% to Taco Bell of $486.01 - leaving a total of $1458 . 03 . Committee had brief discussion regarding booth for next year with addition of cold drinks. B. Fuller House - Bill Byers reported window work has been completed, work on siding to begin week of May 20th and house is cleaned of debris inside. Three bids received for wrought iron fence surrounding Fuller House: Bids of $10,138, $10,000 and $9,400. Bid included railings on porch and steps in front and back with double four foot gate in front. This is a six foot fence, same color as trim on house. Electrician that volunteered his services is meeting with Ray McDonald to arrange for materials to do electrical work. Discussion regarding money left to continue work - Rick Herold will have complete report at June meeting and monthly reports thereafter. C. Historical Marker - Weldon Cannon reported all material turned into State has been approved. People in Austin will write text and send it to us for any changes and approval. When approved buy us, text will be sent to foundry for printing. D. Recognition of Upcoming Historical Events - Diana Crawford is having a plaque with 5x7 picture made to present to First United Methodist Church at their 120th celebration on May 19, 1996. Bill Byers extended invitation to all to attend celebration. EHPC Minutes 051396 page 2 E. Photo Collection - Jean Whitener has collected more photos to be copied for files. II. New Business A. Bedford Historical Committee is selling bricks as a fund raiser for renovating the old Bedford School. Betty Fuller made motion, Nina Winters seconded, motion carried that Euless Historical Preservation Committee buy a brick as a gesture from our committee to Bedford's. Amount: $35 .00 B. Jean Whitener made a motion, Nina Winters seconded, motion carried that Euless Historical Preservation Committee will send a check for $25.00 to the Grand Prairie Historical Committee and the Irving Historical Committee as gesture for tours for our committee in April . Nina Winters will send checks and notes. C. Rick Herold suggested that the Historical Preservation Committee start a process of naming buildings and parks with names of seniors that have been active in the city. Bill Byers asked Rick to secure a list of public buildings and rooms that have not been named. Historical Committee will make a recommendation to the City Council to form a committee to name rooms that are designated by numbers or letters, to be named after deserving citizens.
