June 10, 1996
The June 10, 1996 meeting of Euless Historical Preservation
Committee was called to order at 10: 10 a.m. by Chairperson Diana
Crawford.
Members Present
Iva Nail , Jean Whitener, Diana Crawford, Evelyn Whitener, Vada
Johnson, Weldon Cannon, Geri Donworth, Nina Winters and Helen
Payton
Staff Members Present
Ray McDonald, Projects Supervisor and Julia Wakeley, Parks &
Leisure Services Manager.
Approval of Minutes
Minutes of May 13 , 1996 meeting were approved as submitted.
I. Old Business
A. Historical Marker
Text from Texas Historical Commission sent for approval .
Weldon Cannon will read and approve. After inscription is
approved by the Historical Commission, Susan Crim, Mayor
Mary Lib Saleh, Diana Crawford and Joy K. Evetts, the marker
will be ordered for casting.
The Historical Committee and Mayor Saleh discussed the
historical marker ceremonies and it was the opinion of both
parties that the historical marker ceremonies should be held
separately from the library opening.
B. Arbor Daze
Geri Donworth has talked with Taco Bell manager and they
will continue to support the Historical Committee at Arbor
Daze in 1997. Arbor Daze will be April 19, 20 and 21.
Robert Nail has suggested that the committee offer to help
Taco Bell with delivering food to booth. Taco Bell was
recognized at Council Meeting.
C. Fuller House
1 . Kevin Mercer and Ray McDonald are checking code on
electrical . Electrician is installing plugs.
2 . Bill Byers reported that siding has been completed.
3 . Committee agreed the wrought iron fence should extend
to outer edge of walking path in front and should extend

further on the north to have room to set up tables for
outdoor functions.
4 . Robert Nail will draw plans for kitchen cabinets.
5 . Committee will have a walk-through of fuller house
Thursday, June 13 at 9: 30 a.m. and discuss stages for
inside work.
6 . Laidlaw Disposal is providing a dumpster free of charge
to use until the project is finished.
D. Past and Local Events
1 . Bill Byers presented plaque from Euless Historical
Society to First United Methodist Church at their 120th
anniversary May 19, 1996.
2 . Weldon Cannon and Jean Whitener attended celebration of
St. John's Church 122nd anniversary. Weldon Cannon
presented plaque from Historical Committee.
3 . Photo Collection
Jean Whitener is working with David Allen on photos.
4 . Oral History
Copies of oral history with Willie Huffman Byers by
Betty Fuller, transcribed by Nina Winters, were
distributed to members. Weldon Cannon and Betty Fuller
are working on other oral histories.
II. New Business
A. Chairperson Crawford asked members to bring ideas for
recruiting volunteers, new members and membership to the
next meeting.
B. List of buildings that may need names was distributed.
C. Information from Greensville Area Postal Customer Advisory
Council regarding "Audie Murphy Day" June 20, 1996 was
distributed.

The meeting was adjourned at 11 : 15 a.m. .
