HomeMy WebLinkAbout1996-10-14 Euless Historical Preservation Committee Minutes October 14, 1996 The October 14, 1996 meeting of Euless Historical Preservation Committee was called to order at 10:15 a.m. with Chairperson Diana Crawford presiding. Members Present Willie Mae McCormick, Evelyn Mimes, Robert Nail, Weldon Cannon, Vada Johnson, Mazie Eden, Jean Whitener, Geri Donworth, Diana Crawford and Helen Payton. Staff Members Present Ray McDonald, Projects Supervisor and Julia Wakeley, Parks & Leisure Services Manager Approval of Minutes Minutes of the September 9, 1996 meeting were approved as submitted. I. Old Business A. Fuller House Update Mr. Storey has purchased some electrical supplies and needs to install a circuit box. TU Electric has installed a temporary service line to the Fuller House. Chairperson Crawford has contacted Trent Petty at TU Electric to see if TU Electric will install a permanent underground electric line at no cost. The Parks Board approved the moving of the jogging track and installation of a six foot black wrought iron fence. Goal of Historical Committee is to have electrical work and fence completed by the November 11 meeting. B. Elisha Adam Euless Historical Marker Update Monument is not designed as originally planned. It was the plan of the Historical Committee that the monument be handicap accessible, have room for a group of 25 to 30 people to stand and for people to be able to walk up and touch the marker. Weldon Cannon suggested that perhaps the flat part on the west side could be paved for people to stand rather than having greenery. The Historical Committee has made three recommendations. Julia Wakeley will pass recommendations to Rick Herold. Recommendations are: 1. Remove light in center of walk to make wheel chair accessible 2. Pave walk to marker EHPC Mtg. 101496 page 2 3. Remove round brick flush with ground and fill in with paving. Preliminary plans for marker ceremony: Committee has suggested having the reception at 1: 30 p.m. , program at 2:30 p.m. on Sunday afternoon. Definite date cannot be set until marker is completed and Tarrant County Judge Tom Vandergriff and Don Willis from Texas Historical Commission are available. Committee looked at invitations provided by Chairperson Crawford and agreed on a good grade of cream colored stock. Suggestions for contents of invitations: history text, musical number, member of Euless Family to do unveiling of marker and RSVP cards. Invitation list should include: Adam Euless Family Tarrant County Judge Tom Vandergriff Tarrant County Historical Chairman City Council Board and Commissions Former Mayors Mayors from neighboring cities Volunteers of Historical Committee Private Donors Key Employees (list from Secretary's Office) Members should provide a list of people they would like to invite. Other things to include in plans: Photographer Press Release Luncheon with Euless Family Reception for people participating in ceremony Reception before unveiling Map of City Complex HEB Elementary School Choir C. Financial Reports Chairperson Crawford distributed financial statement of Historical Preservation Committee. Statement reflects a balance of #15,335.11 from Hotel/Motel Fund and $6,888.90 from Betterment Fund. Bills for electrical supplies and siding for Fuller House still outstanding. Chairperson Crawford has asked the Financial Department to send monthly report of Historical Committee to Ray McDonald to be reported at each meeting. D. Member Reports EHPC Mtg. 101496 page 3 Jean Whitener supplied pictures for Police Department Display (first school, lumber yard, two churches and an aerial view of Euless. ) II. New Business A. Chairperson Crawford suggested ordering Historical marker plaques for city limit signs. Committee discussed placing plaques at Highway 121 and Glade Road (north) , Highway 157 and Pipeline Road (south) , Airport Freeway and Highway 360 (east) and Airport Freeway and Industrial (west) . Weldon Cannon made motion to purchase four Historical marker plaques in black and white to be placed on city limit signs at a cost of $100.00 each. Jean Whitener seconded and the motion carried. B. Chairperson Crawford announced that Troy Fuller will be new Chairman of Historical Committee. C. Change of meeting - Robert Nail made motion for Historical Committee to meet after Board and Commissions meeting on November 11, 1996. Evelyn Himes seconded and the motion carried.
