HomeMy WebLinkAbout1996-12-09 Euless Historical Preservation Committee Minutes December 9, 1996 The December 9, 1996 meeting of Euless Historical Preservation Committee was called to order by Chairman Troy Fuller at 10:10 a.m. Members Present Jean Whitener, Evelyn Himes, Iva Nail, Robert Nail, Geri Donworth, Bill Byers, Weldon Cannon, Vada Johnson, Willie Mae McCormick, Helen Payton, Troy Fuller Staff Members Present Project Supervisor Ray McDonald, Parks & Leisure Services Manager Julia Wakeley Election/Re-election of Secretary Motion made by Bill Byers to re-elect Helen Payton Secretary. Motion seconded by Jean Whitener, motion passed unanimously. I. Old Business A. Fuller House Update 1. Bill Byers met with Kevin Mercer, Jim Moye and Ray McDonald at Fuller House to discuss plans for moving jogging track so that fence can be installed. 2. Bill Byers will meet with Lone Star Gas Co to determine nearest place to hook up gas line to Fuller House. There is also a possibility of Lone Star Gas helping with the cost. 3 . TU Electric has completed installation of electrical service to house. Electrician has been working on electrical inside, it is not completed. 4. Contractor doing work at new Auto Supply store on Main Street will deliver dirt needed to level yard. 5. Temporary fence surrounding house will be removed at end of December at which time new wrought iron fence should be completed. 6. Bill Byers has talked with cement contractor, Marvin McBurnett, regarding installing sidewalk from porch to jogging track. 7. Robert Nail and Bill Byers have removed some of the EHPC Mtg. 120996 page 2 metal cabinets in kitchen so that electrical plugs could be installed. Robert Nail suggested replacing metal cabinets with wood. Geri Donworth made motion to remove all metal cabinets and replace with wood cabinets, white tile top with black trim to bring house to original style. Motion seconded by Vada Johnson, motion passed unanimously. 8. Iva Nail and Bill Byers have met with Robert Klabfeish regarding design for leaded glass window. Mr. Klabfeish has begun work on window. B. Historical Marker Update 1 . Rick Herold will meet with Diana Crawford to proceed with changes on Historical Marker site. 2. Committee voted to have Elisha Adam Euless historical marker ceremony February 9, 1997 with reception immediately following. C. Parade of Lights Jimmy Payton has obtained a 1931 Ford for the Historical Committee to use in the Parade of Lights December 14. The car will be driven by owner Jim Eitleman. D. Member Reports 1. Weldon cannon is working on Church of Christ and post office histories. 2. Jean Whitener has received more pictures for the history book. 3. Vada Johnson has pictures to add to the history book. 4. Weldon Cannon has Oral History tapes of Lizzie Reeves and Jennie Payton. 5. Vada Johnson reported there are tapes of Joe Wood at TCJC. 6. Chairman Fuller asked that committee members get a list of oral histories that are now available and to make a list of people that should be interviewed. II. New Business Chairman Fuller requested the following: EHPC Mtg. 120996 page 3 1. Nina Winters check with city staff for the approximate size of Euless to see how they use the Hotel-Motel tax. 2. Geri Donworth check with cities that have restored houses, how they are used, budgets and cost to run in a 5 to 10 year span. 3. Robert and Iva Nail, Jimmy and Helen Payton and Troy Fuller talk with Bill Deacon about donating and restoring Deacon House on Heritage Drive. 4. Members volunteer as speakers for advertising Historical Committee. Volunteers at meeting were Troy Fuller, Weldon Cannon, Geri Donworth and Vada Johnson.
