HomeMy WebLinkAbout1997-01-20 Euless Historical Preservation Committee Minutes January 20, 1997 The January 20, 1997 meeting of Euless Historical Preservation Committee was called to order by Chairman Troy Fuller at 10:10 a.m. in Conference Room #1, Building A. Members Present Evelyn Hines, Betty Fuller, Willie Mae McCormick, Weldon Cannon, Diana Crawford, Jean Whitener, Bill Byers, Robert Nail, Iva Nail, Helen Payton and Troy Fuller Staff Members Present Ray McDonald, Projects Supervisor Guests Robin Reynolds and Shelly Buttgen of Tarrant County Historical Society Approval of Minutes Minutes of the December 9, 1996 meeting were corrected to show Nina Winters is requested to check with other cities the approximate size of Euless to see how they used the Hotel/Motel Tax. I. Old Business A. Member Reports 1 . Helen Payton reported the Historical Committee had entry in the Parade of Lights. Troy Fuller, Diana Crawford and Willie Mae McCormick rode in a 1931 Ford owned and driven by Jim Eitleman of Irving. 2. Nina Winters reported that City of Grand Prairie owns the Copeland House. The city pays for the utilities - maintenance is paid from the Hotel/Motel Tax. Members of the Historical Committee pay for security and telephone. Members pay dues of $10.00. B. Fuller House Update 1 . Robert Nail has removed all old cabinets from the kitchen. 2. Bill Byers reported that the wrought iron fence will be complete when caps are attached to the posts. Temporary fence has been removed. EHPC Mtg. 012097 page 2 , 3. Bill Byers has a bid for $1,750 from Oscar Deaton plumbing to install approximately 270 feet of gas line. Bill is checking with Flowers Construction about possibly installing the gas line with the committee paying for supplies. 4. Robert Nail presented a list of things needed to be done to complete the Fuller House: a. remove old sink b. new cabinets for kitchen c. outside door d. inside doors need to be refinished e. hardware for doors f . sheetrock removed and replaced g. floors refinished h. complete electrical wiring i. gas hooked up j. wallpaper k. light fixtures 5. Committee recommended replacing outside kitchen door with a 6 (like the original) and a solid wood door to the den. 6. Chairman Fuller suggested installing a security system. 7. Chairman Fuller asked Robert Nail and Bill Byers to get an estimate of everything needed to complete the Fuller House and report at the February 10, 1997 meeting. Committee will make decisions then. 8. Leaded glass window is in the process of being installed. C. Historical Marker Update Committee made following decisions for Marker dedication: 1 . Program: Dedication 1:00 pm Reception 2 :00 pm Troy Fuller: Master of Ceremonies Mayor Mary Lib Saleh: Introduction of Guests Gary Whitbeck, Pastor, First Methodist Church, Invocation and Benediction 2. Invitations mailed to Euless Family, Tarrant County Judge Vandergriff, mayors, City Council members, Tarrant County Historical Society and neighboring Historical Committees. Additional 100 invitations to be mailed. EHPC Mtg. 012097 page 3 3. Special name tags for Adam Euless Family members - name tags for dignitaries. 4. Tape program 5. Pictures 6. Reception to be held in the library: punch, coffee, Boyce Byers will order cake. II. New Business A. Robin Reynolds from Tarrant County Historical Committee gave an update on the Morrison Estate on Pipeline Road. The Jenkins (owners) are living in the guest house and work has begun on the main house. Designers have been to the house to choose rooms to design. There will be a bare bones party and estate sale February 21st. The house is to be completed in April and an open house will begin April 25th for two weeks. Euless Committee has been asked to participate in opening. Volunteers are needed for various functions. Committee will discuss more at next meeting. B. Chairman Fuller gave members a report on the Fuller House Budget. The report shows a remaining balance of $59,245.00. C. Committee Time Goals Chairman Fuller has asked members to set a time to finish projects - Fuller House, oral interviews, etc. and report at next meeting.
