Minutes
March 10, 1997
The March 10, 1997 meeting of Euless Historical Preservation
Committee was called to order by Vice Chairman Bill Byers at
10:05 a.m. in Conference Room #1 , Building A.
Members Present
Iva Nail, Mazie Eden, Willie Mae McCormick, Vada Johnson,
Jean Whitener, Evelyn Himes, Weldon Cannon, Geri Donworth Sorg,
Robert Nail, Helen Payton
Staff Members Present
Director of Community Services Rick Herold and Parks and
Leisure Services Manager Julia Wakeley
Approval of Minutes
Two corrections made to minutes of February 10, 1997
meeting:
1 . Committee decided the wall behind the cabinets be
painted rather than papered.
2. The Cromer House (Ten Oaks) was bulldozed.
I. Old Business
A. Fuller House Update
1. All kitchen cabinets are finished.
2 . Back doors have been installed.
3 . All ceilings have been sheetrocked with a four foot
band of sheetrock around the walls which will not
interfere with the electrical.
4 . Ceilings in all rooms are to be textured.
5. Iva Nail and Helen Payton will look for wallpaper for
the kitchen, breakfast area, living room and dining
room. The bedrooms will be used for museum - these
rooms will be textured and painted.
6 . Committee discussed Security System. No decision was
made.
7. Johnnie Green will be installing the sprinkler system
and landscaping the yard as his time permits.
8. Iva Nail and Helen Payton purchased a 1960, 40 inch
Fridgaire kitchen stove. She also priced refrigerators
at Circuit City, Builders Supply and Hurst T.V. . She
recommends that we purchase 18 cu. ft. (no ice maker)
RCA at Hurst T.V. because of delivery, installation and
service at a cost of $517. 00.
9 . Flowers Construction will do gas line installation,

weather permitting.
10. Two doors are needed for the front of the house.
Robert Nail has volunteered to try to find doors at the
Old Home Supply similar to the original doors.
11 . Bill Byers reported that he had received a $50.00
donation from Edwin Benbow. Iva Nail has received
donations from Veta (Fuller) Boswell, Mr. & Mrs. Louis
Cribbs and Linda Pool for a total of $1400 . 00. Thank-
you notes will be sent to donors.
12 . Geri Donworth Sorg has checked with two places
regarding cost of operating historical houses: a) A
home in West Fort Worth in the process of being
restored is estimating a cost of $40 ,000 a year to
operate. Part of the cost is due to security because
of the location. b) Geri talked with the City of
Bedford about the Old Bedford School House. They are
budgeting $60,000 a year. This amount probably
includes director's salary.
B. Arbor Daze
Vice Chairman Byers reported that Taco Bell will not be
participating in Arbor Daze this year.
Rick Herold suggested that Pedro's Tamales might be an
alternative. Robert Nail has information and will contact
Lamar Certain, 972-985-9572 at Pedro's for prices and see if
arrangements can be made for them to participate with the
Historical Committee.
Historical Committee will sell Mindy Lee's Fried Pies and
tamales if arrangements can be made with Pedro's. members
will be contacted regarding decisions.
II. New Business
1. Weldon Cannon gave copies of letters from members of Adam
Euless families expressing appreciation for work on Adam
Euless Marker and dedication ceremonies. Forty-six members
of the Euless Family were present with 16 members being from
out of state (California, Alabama and Tennessee. ) Weldon
also received a letter from the Texas Historical Commission
expressing their thanks for the program and newspaper
clippings which will be placed in the file with the
application information. Mayor Saleh wrote a handwritten
note to each of the Euless Families that attended.
2. Weldon Cannon gave members a map of the Euless Election
Precinct #29 created out of Bedford Precinct #8 in 1888 .
3 . There is a display at the Arlington Library about Mosier

Valley, a collection of different items, some furnished by
Vada Johnson. Weldon Cannon has suggested it would be nice
to have this display at the Euless Library.
4. Vada Johnson is working with Fort Worth Science and History
museum on an October display on African American Culture in
Tarrant County.

The meeting was adjourned at 11 :30 a.m. .
