Minutes
September 8, 1997
The September 8 , 1997 meeting of the Euless Historical
Preservation Committee was called to order by Vice-Chairman Billy
Byers at 10: 10 a.m. in Conference Room #1, Building A, 201 North
Ector Drive.
Members Present
Willie Mae McCormick, Vada Johnson, Jean Whitener, Weldon
Cannon, Diana Crawford, Billy Byers, Betty Fuller and Helen
Payton
Staff Present
Parks and Leisure Services Manager Julia Wakeley and
Projects Supervisor Ray McDonald
Approval of Minutes
Betty Fuller made the motion, seconded by Willie Mae
McCormick, to approve the minutes of the July 14, 1997 meeting as
presented.
I. Old Business
A. Fuller House Update
1. Chairman Fuller reported by memorandum that Mayor Saleh
has approved payment for the electrical work on the
Fuller House. The air conditioning is in and working
well .
2. Billy Byers has a man to paint cabinets.
B. Deacon House
Chairman Fuller reported by memo that he has been in touch
with Bill Deacon. Mr. Deacon has consulted the other heirs
about moving the Deacon House to Euless. Mr. Deacon
reported that his sister is considering moving the house to
Grapevine and remodeling to use as her homestead. She is
currently looking for a lot and getting estimates on the
cost of moving and remodeling the house. Hopefully, we will
know something within the next few months.
II. New Business
A. Himes House
Chairman Fuller has talked with Shirley Melson, owner of the
log house encased in the newer part of the Himes House,
about donating the log house to the City so that it could be

moved to the Ruth Millican Park. Chairman Fuller has made
arrangements with Craig Milde, architect with Architexas to
make an inspection of the house when temperatures in attic
are a little cooler. He will give us a report as to the
cost of rehab of the log house on its present site,
recommendation in moving house, etc.
B. Vacancy left by Nina Winters
Mayor Saleh will forward any names she receives from mail
out for volunteers with the water bills this month. She
does not have any names at the present time.
C. Historical Signs
Diana Crawford reported that the Historical signs for
Airport Freeway, Highway 121 and Highway 157 (4 signs) have
been shipped to the Texas Department of Public
Transportation. The Department of Public Transportation
will install these signs.
D. Donations for Museum
Diana Crawford is preparing a letter (1/3 to 1/2) page to be
mailed with the water bills, hopefully in November,
requesting donations of pictures and memorabilia to use in
the museum. This letter will explain the use of the Fuller
House, recognize people who have made donations and list
articles that have been donated. Letter to be approved by
Rick Herold and City Manager.
E. Computer
Diana Crawford is preparing letters to be mailed to Best
Buy, Tandy Corporation and Comp USA asking for their support
in helping to obtain a compute to be used in the Fuller
House Museum.
F. October Meeting
Julia Wakeley reported that Mayor Saleh has invited the
Historical Committee to have the October 13 , 1997 meeting at
the Texas Star. Helen Payton will contact members.

The meeting was adjourned at 11 :10 a.m. .
