Minutes
March 9, 1998
The March 9, 1998 meeting of the Euless Historical Preservation Committee was called to order by
Chairman Troy fuller at 10:10 a.m. in Conference Room#1, Building A,201 North Ector Drive.
Members Present
Willie May McCormick,Vada Johnson, Billy Byers, Betty Fuller,Don Tharp, Weldon Cannon,Iva Nail,
Robert Nail,Jean Whitener, Diana Crawford,Nell Hicks and Troy Fuller.
Staff Present
Parks and Leisure Services Manager Julia Wakeley and Projects Supervisor Ray McDonald.
Approval of Minutes
Minutes of the January 12, 1998 meeting were approved as presented.
Old Business
A. Fuller House Update
1. Inside nearing completion. Curtains have been purchased for windows.
2. Landscaping plans were presented. Awaiting one last bid before submitting for approval.
3. Discussed refrigerator. Iva and Helen have found one but will check with city purchaser is see if
a larger discount can be had.
4. Discussed that no food be cooked in the house. A microwave will be purchased to heat food.
5. Discussed that while the fence will deter most,Julia will see what covering the house under the
city security system would involve.
6. Diana Crawford discussed plans for the museum.
a. Fuller House update letter has been inserted in the City of Euless water bills for March.
b. List of possible items and information to be considered for inclusion was distributed for
ideas and additions/deletions.
c. Asked if Julia could check to see if city had any file cabinets stored that could be placed
in the Fuller House.
B. Invitation Lists for Fuller House Dedication
1. Members submitted guest lists for consolidation.
2. Designed text for invitation, submitted to Julia for typing.
3. Discussed having a work party after a meeting to address envelopes.
4. Discussed program for opening and inviting pastors from neighboring churches,
Sabiet Baptist(who donated the house to the committee)and the Greek church(neighbors to the
south)to open and close the ceremonies.
C. New Euless Historical Markers
1. Discussed location of"Historical Markers in City"signs. Troy is working to have the west sign
moved into the city. Discussed purchasing more signs and the numerous locations desirable.
Troy will investigator if funding available for more signs.
2. Discussed designing a Euless historical marker that the committee could use to recognize sites
and buildings the committee deems historically important.
3. The committee decided against a time capsule at the Fuller House.
4. Discussed placing a plaque at the Fuller House listing the City Council and Historical Committee
members similar to the one placed at the Old Iron Bridge. Committee asked Julia to get more
information.
D. Delay of Group Picture
1. Committee Group Picture will be rescheduled when all members can be present.
II New Business
A. Docents
1. Discussed recruiting volunteers who could serve as docents for the house.
2. Discussed how this separate group of the historical committee could sponsor historical programs
quarterly.
B. Star Telegram sponsored NE Tarrant County Historical Preservation meeting, Saturday,March 14. Troy
encouraged members to attend and commended the Star Telegram for gathering historical organizations
together.
C. Old Bedford School history presentations
1. Committee members congratulated Vada Johnson on her recent presentation. It was very well
done.
2. Weldon Cannon will present"A Business History of Bedford", at the Old Bedford School on
Thursday,April 23 at 7pm. He passed out to the committee information he had compelled on
HEB's history as it was reflected in the Bradstreets commercial ratings.
D. Callaway Cemetery
1. Discussed 1st United Methodist Church newsletter that addressed the state of the cemetery and
hope that awareness in it could help keep it maintained.

The meeting was adjourned at 1130a.m.
