HomeMy WebLinkAbout1998-05-11 Euless Historical Preservation Committee Minutes May 11, 1998 Call To Order The May 11, 1998, meeting of the Euless Historical Preservation Committee was called to order by Chairman Troy Fuller at 10:10 a.m. in Conference Room #1, Building"A", 201 North Ector Drive. Members Present Those members in attendance were: Chairman Troy Fuller, Helen Lightbody, Vada Johnson, Betty Fuller, Nell Hicks, Willie Mae McCormick, Jean Whitener, Iva Nail, Diana Crawford, Don Tharp, Billy Byers, Robert Nail and Helen Payton. Staff Present Staff members present were: Director of Community Services Rick Herold, Parks and Leisure Services Manager Julia Wakeley and Special Projects Coordinator Ray McDonald. Approval Of Minutes The minutes of the April 13, 1998 meeting were approved. I. Old Business A. Fuller House Dedication - Final Plans 1. Iva Nail reported the yard has been leveled, trees trimmed, dumpster moved, curtains in kitchen, breakfast room, bath and two back doors have been hung. Robert Nail has done touchup painting and the parking lot is being resurfaced. 2. Eight venetian blinds are needed for windows in the bedrooms at an approximate cost of$800.00. Troy Fuller will check to see if funds are available to purchase blinds. 3. New ideas for the Fuller House marker were presented by Iva Nail. It was agreed that the marker should be stone similar to the cornerstone on the Fuller House and approximately three feet wide. Committee discussed Euless Historical Preservation Committee Page 2 May 11, 1998 information to be on marker, names of council members, Historical Committee members, etc. Diana Crawford gave ideas for a small sign to be placed on the fence in front of the Fuller House. Suggested information for the sign was; telephone number, hours the house will be open, events, etc. After discussion by the committee Bill Byers made motion to submit information to the Mayor and City Council to make final decision on marker and sign. Motion seconded by Betty Fuller and motion carried. 4 Diana Crawford gave information on display cases and items needed for the museum. display cases are made of ash with tempered glass and locks at a cost of$650.00 each, she suggested ordering two. Cases can be ready for opening if ordered immediately. Two binders are needed for maps, pictures and history information. A dictionary stand is needed to hold binders (Billy Byers volunteered to make stand). Weldon Cannon and Diana Crawford have planned to have 6 or 8 blown-up, foam board posters with history of Euless, Mr. Euless, Mosier Valley, farming, business history of Euless, religion and church history, education and early settlers. Posters would be large enough for people to walk through and read how Euless was started with some history and facts. Robert Nail made motion to give Diana Crawford authority to spend up to $2,000 for items needed for museum. Betty Fuller seconded and the motion carried. 5. Committee agreed to have the dedication ceremony in the Ruth Millican Center since the building has seating and is air conditioned. 6. Troy Fuller presented sample program for opening ceremony. Committee discussed, made suggestions and approved program. 7. Mrs. Billy Byers is making punch and members are volunteering to make cookies for the reception. Reception table will be set-up on the back porch. B. Reminder - Deadline for Invitation List 1. Helen Lightbody must have all names and addresses and corrected addresses no later than May 15th. 2. Four hundred invitations have been ordered - current list has about 220 names. Members will be given extra invitations if needed. 3. Invitations will be hand addressed and mailed approximately three weeks before opening. Euless Historical Preservation Committee Page 3 May 11, 1998 II. NEW BUSINESS 1. Rick Herold is getting report for funds donated to the Fuller House by individuals, memorials, Arbor Daze, Norma Lively painting and note cards. This information does not appear on statements received by Historical Committee. 2. Mrs. Willie Mae McCormick gave $1,000 to purchase a computer for the Fuller House. 3. Diana Crawford received 8 responses from the Fuller House update letter mailed with water bills. 4. Tuesday, May 19th - work day at Fuller House. III.
