HomeMy WebLinkAbout1999-01-18 Euless Historical Preservation Committee Minutes January 18, 1999 The January 18, 1999 meeting of the Euless Historical Preservation Committee was called to order by Vice-Chairman Bill Byers at 10 : 15 a.m. at the Fuller House, 203 Cullum Drive. Members Present Iva Nail, Robert Nail, Don Tharp, Evelyn Himes, Helen Lightbody, Jean Whitener, Betty Fuller, Weldon Cannon, Vada Johnson, Nell Hicks, Willie Mae McCormick, Helen Payton and Bill Byers Staff Present Special Projects Supervisor Ray McDonald Approval of Minutes Wille Mae McCormick made the motion, Iva Nail seconded, to approve the minutes of December 14, 1998 meeting. Motion passed. I. Old Business A. Himes House 1 . Bill Byers is still trying to get bids to move the Himes House. 2 . Julia Wakeley has contacted the Farmers Branch Historical Committee regarding procedures involved in moving historical houses. 3 . Betty Fuller will check with the Tarrant County Historical Society about restrictions on moving and retaining historical significance . 4 . Weldon Cannon will work with Evelyn Himes on the history of the house . 5 . Shirley Himes Melson has the butter churn and Evelyn Himes has a crock that Mrs . Himes used when making kraut and pickles . II. New Business A. Fuller House Assignments for February Open House 1 . Betty Fuller, Vada Johnson and Helen Lightbody have volunteered to work at the February 13, 1999 open house. 2 . Robert Nail and Weldon Cannon volunteered at the January, 1999 open house. Thirty-six people attended. 3 . Louis and Hattie Cribbs attended the open house and donated a homemade, wooden hatbox with a hat for the museum. 4 . Marge Crow, who attended the open house, has a wall EHPC Mtg. 011899 Page 2 telephone that she will loan. 5. Dub and Iris Elliott have a pitcher and bowl that belonged to the Fullers that they will put in the Fuller House. 6. Betty Fuller brought four Euless High School annuals donated by Bill Gay for the museum. 7 . Robert and Weldon recommended having permanent nametags made for members of the Historical Committee to wear when volunteering. The nametags are to be left at the house. 8 . A suggestion was made to have a brochure to give to people when visiting the Fuller House (the story of the house, purpose, etc. ) Weldon Cannon will work on information for the brochure. 9 . The committee would like to check with the Fire Marshall regarding number of people allowed in the Fuller House. They would like to have 30 - 35 people allowed for parties and meetings. 10 . Ray McDonald will get open house information on the Euless Cable Channel and a flyer in the water bill . 11 . Weldon Cannon will check with Jenny Kratz about getting open house information in newspapers each month. 12 . Willie Mae McCormick has donated a coffeepot for the Fuller House . 13. Betty Fuller has purchased a microwave at a cost of $119. 00. 14 . Robert Nail suggested showing a video of the Fuller House being moved to the present location to visitors . B. Report from Staff 1 . Rick Herold has made a CD of the Kitchen Spice Band. This group of senior citizens performed at the first Arbor Daze, rest homes and various functions . Rick wondered if the Historical Committee might be interested in selling the CD' s as a fundraiser. Committee discussed ideas and suggested displaying CD' s next to the donation box and for a $10 . 00 donation visitors would receive a CD. C. Other Business 1 . Weldon Cannon distributed information on the program that he and Patty will be presenting to the Texas State Historical Association on Thursday, March 4, 1999 at the Fairmont Hotel in Dallas . 2 . Betty Fuller will buy scrapbooks for newspaper articles that have been collected. 3 . Willie Mae McCormick extended an invitation to the Historical Committee to meet at her daughter' s home at the next meeting.
