HomeMy WebLinkAbout1999-03-08 Euless Historical Preservation Committee Minutes March 8, 1999 After visiting Willie Mae McCormick' s house to view scrapbooks, the March 8, 1999 meeting of the Euless Historical Preservation Committee was called to order by Chairman Bill Byers at 10 : 20 a.m. at the home of Elizabeth Wilcox, 2302 North Main St, Euless . Members Present Bill Byers, Betty Fuller, Troy Fuller, Nell Hicks, Evelyn Himes, Helen Lightbody, Willie Mae McCormick, Iva Nail, Robert Nail, Don Tharp and Jean Whitener Guests Present JoAnn Rogers, Manager Euless Library and Elizabeth Wilcox Approval of Minutes Motion was made by Jean Whitener and seconded by Helen Lightbody to approve the minutes of the February 8, 1999 minutes . Motion passed. After thanking Elizabeth Wilcox and Willie McCormick for hosting the meeting, Chairman Byers distributed Historical Committee name tags to members present. The tags will be worn when attending official functions and when serving as docents at the Fuller House . Chairman Byers also circulated Audie Murphy memorabilia. Jean Whitener reported that Diana Crawford received an offer from city staff member, Rick Maldonado, to purchase a computer for the Historical Preservation Committee at a cost of $1200 . 00 . Committee members questioned if bids were required for this purchase . Chairman Byers also reminded members of the donated offer of a computer from a local bank. I . Old Business A. Himes House Chairman Byers has not met with Joe Hennig to discuss the Himes House . He will obtain bids for moving the house . EHPC 030899 Mtg. 1 B. Fuller House Betty Fuller obtained application forms from the Texas State Historical Association to be completed if the Committee wishes to pursue Subject Marker status for the Himes or Fuller houses . C. Willie Mae McCormick is contemplating applying for a marker for the McCormick Barn, which was built of materials obtained from Fort Worth' s Camp Bowie after World War I . II . New Business 1 . Chairman Bill Byers introduced Euless Library Manager, JoAnn Rogers who said she would add committee members to the list of those receiving library newsletters and other publicity releases . She also reported that the Library is currently featuring a display on women including "Heroines on Horseback - Cowgirls" . Ms . Rogers offered the Committee the use of the Library meeting room at no charge. She offered to display a poster highlighting the dates the Fuller House is open to the public. The city staff will be asked to make a poster for display in the library. 2 . Robert Nail received no commitment from his request to Taco Bell for the donation of a video tape player. 3 . Betty Fuller announced the offer of: a 1918 Brunswick victrola, an old trunk and quilts, an old phone, oil lamps and a vase from Rob Pirtle, 504 Dunaway (817) 545-1887 . 4 . Chairman Byers stated that a form must be prepared for the donation/loan of historical artifacts to the Fuller House Museum. A form for a letter of acceptance must also be generated. Betty Fuller will contact Julia Wakeley requesting city guidance in developing the forms plus information regarding insurance coverage for furnishings and artifacts displayed in the house . 5. Nell Hicks reported a $25 . 00 donation to the Fuller House from the Trailwood Garden Club. The gift is in honor of Edna Pasteur. 6 . Chairman Byers announced that Evelyn Himes and Jean Whitener will serve as docents at the Fuller House, Saturday, March 13 . Troy Fuller and Bill Byers volunteered to be April docents at the House.
