HomeMy WebLinkAbout2000-01-10 Euless Historical Preservation Committee Minutes January 10, 2000 The January 10, 2000 meeting of the Euless Historical Preservation Committee was called to order by Chairman Bill Byers at 10 : 00 a.m. at the Fuller House, 203 Cullum Drive. Members Present Troy Fuller, Bill Byers, Willie Mae McCormick, Weldon Cannon, Evelyn Himes, Helen Ratttron t,,,; 20-(,ody Staff Present Rick Herold, Director of Parks and Community Services Approval of Minutes A motion was made to approve the minutes of the December 13, 1999 meeting, motion was seconded, motion carried. I. Old Business A. Himes House 1 . Troy Fuller has met with Mayor Mary Lib Saleh and City Manager Joe Hennig and presented information relative to the Himes House. He gave them the information provided by the two men, one in Ponder and the other in Hico. He left their business cards with them. Mayor Saleh and Joe Hennig seemed to favor relocation of the house to be near the Fuller House. They had hoped to get this item on the Agenda for the Council meeting in January, if possible. 2 . Bill Byers said he would contact a house mover to see if the house could be moved. Discussion was held as to the location of the Himes House at the Fuller site. It would appear to be preferable to be south of the present Fuller House and the current iron fence surrounding the Fuller House could be extended. Bill Byers is also looking into the possibility of obtaining a windmill and an old tractor. B. Fuller House 1 . New attractive brochures were received and are available for distribution in areas of good access and visibility, such as the Library, City stands and possibly public schools . EHPC 011000 Mtg. Page 1 2 . Weldon Cannon related some concern about a historical marker at the school which is being demolished south of Hwy. 10 on Main Street . He will follow up with the proper people to assure that the marker is not destroyed. II. New Business A. Museum Items Discussion was held regarding the care of museum items . All museum items, whether donated or "on loan" need proper care to preserve them and display them for years to come. Items within the cabinets should be kept locked. Signs need to be placed reminding visitors not to touch or handle items on display. Docents should be particularly careful when curious children are visiting the museum and are without proper supervision. A letter giving the history of the Fullers will be made available for visitors . B. Discussion was also held relative to the unsightly conditions in and surrounding the Calloway Cemetary. c. A question was asked as to what happened to the computer that funds were donated for. C. Robert and Iva Nail will be docents in February. Adjournment Weldon Cannon made a motion to adjourn, motion was seconded by Evelyn Himes .
