Minutes
February 14 , 2000
The February 14, 2000 meeting of the Euless Historical
Preservation Committee was called to order by Chairman Bill Byers
at 10 : 10 a.m. at the Fuller House, 203 Cullum Drive .
Members Present
Bill Byers, Willie Mae McCormick, Weldon Cannon, Evelyn Himes,
Jean Whitener, Betty Fuller, Iva Nail, Robert Nail, Helen
Lightbody and Vada Johnson
Staff Present
Rick Herold, Director of Parks and Community Services
Shannon Gresham, Administrative Intern
Approval of Minutes
Iva Nail made a motion to approve the minutes of the meeting held
on January 10, 2000 with the correction of Members Present from
Helen Payton to Helen Lightbody. Motion was seconded and
carried.
I. Old Business
A. Himes House
1 . Bill Byers gave a report on their visit to Chinn Chapel
Cemetery Bill Marquis Log Cabin. Bill Marquis noted
that if you restore the log cabin as required, you can
get recognition from the State. The Himes House,
approximately 20'X20' , could be the largest in the
State of Texas . Estimated cost of moving the house to
Fuller location is $34, 000. Bill provided details on
the structure of the house. Mr. Marquis would be
invited to look at the house, write specs on it and it
would be presented to our Assistant City Manager, Gary
McKamie.
2 . Betty Fuller made a motion that we authorize Bill
Marquis and the City to go ahead with this project.
Vada Johnson seconded the motion, motion carried.
3 . Betty Fuller mentioned that Diana Crawford could not
attend this meeting, but would like to make it a matter
of record that she recommended the Himes House to be on
City property.
4 . An article from the NE Tarrant section of the Dallas
Morning News was presented relative to the restoration

of a 150 year old Torian Cabin in Grapevine.
5. Betty Fuller reported that the cornerstone at the
school is in safekeeping and okay. Secondly, Celia
Mancino, the school' s principal, is having an open
house at South Euless School and would like to have
some historical background to present . A meeting will
be held Thursday, March 2 at 7 p.m. for the formation
of a history at South Euless School .
6 . Diana Crawford had several items for Weldon Cannon and
wants to know where the Iron Bridge Time Capsule is
presently located. She recommends this information to
be contained in our records . Bill Byers stated that it
was located at the northwest corner of the bridge where
the plaque is .
B. Fuller House
1 . Weldon Cannon reported that the Fuller House
information sheets are available. They basically give
a small history of the Fuller House and Family
business, how the house was moved and when, etc... On
the 29th of February, he will be providing info to a
class at TCC on "Ghost Towns in Tarrant Co. "
II. Other Business
A. Rick Herold Report
1 . Julia Wakeley is retiring after 34 years with the City.
He suggested she would be a good recruit for our
committee. A well wishing will be held on March 17 for
her.
2 . Bobby Stanton, National Forestry Service, will be a
guest at our Arbor. Daze Festival . He will be here a
day early (04/27/00) to see Euless. There will be a
well wishing for him also.
3 . The Parks Department is working on a Heritage Park sign
and would like any input from the committee in this
area.
4 . March 4' 2000 is the Auction for Arbor Daze. He asked
if the Committee would favor auctioning a meal for four
people to be held at the Fuller House. The meal would
be catered by the staff at Texas Star. Don Tharp made
a motion that we let the City auction the meal for 4 at
the Fuller House . Motion was seconded by Iva Nail and
carried. Discussion was held and the suggestion was
made that we provide a history on the government of

Euless .
B. Member Reports
1 . Helen Payton said that the Christmas Tree was taken
down on the 5th of February, on the 6th there was a
wedding at the Fuller House and one party (Rita
LaCrowe) indicated they had an old victrola with horn
that could be loaned to the Fuller house.
2 . Rick Herold was asked to provide a form for the
requisition of items and receipts, whether objects were
on loan or donated, whether items were insured and
other pertinent information.
3 . Iva & Robert Nail reported they had some 12 visitors at
the February Open House and all enjoyed their visit .
4 . Willie Mae McCormick said she had some 20 books and
they could be rotated with the existing three books on
display.
5. Discussion was held to take a bus to Chinn Chapel as a
group.
6. Docents for March 11 will be Evelyn Himes and Jean
Whitener.
Adjournment
Evelyn Himes made a motion to adjourn. Helen Payton seconded the
motion. Meeting adjourned at 11 : 52 a.m.
