Euless Historical Preservation Committee
Minutes
April 10, 2000
The April 10, 2000 meeting of the Euless Historical Preservation
Committee was called to order by Chairman Bill Byers at 10 : 15
a.m. at the Fuller House, 203 Cullum Drive.
Members Present
Willie Mae McCormick, Bill Byers, Troy Fuller, Iva Nail, Robert
Nail, Jean Whitener, Betty Fuller, Vada Johnson, Helen Payton,
Evelyn Himes, Michelle Burger, Julia Wakeley, Don Tharp and Helen
Lightbody

Rick Herold, Director of Parks and Community Services
Approval of Minutes
Troy Fuller mad a motion to approve the minutes of the March
Meeting. It was seconded by Willie Mae McCormick. Motion
passed.
I. Old Business
A. Himes House
A review was made by Bill Byers and Troy Fuller regarding
the progress on the moving and restoration of the Himes
House . Mayor Mary Lib Saleh and Deputy Manager Gary McKamie
visited with them to Chinns Chapel to see the log cabin.
Bids were reviewed. A copy of the bid from Hico is
attached. It was decided the bid from Bill Marquis was the
better of the two .
Bill invited the members of the Committee to attend the pre-
Council meeting Tuesday, April 11 to familiarize the council
members with their recommendations . There will be further
discussion as to the process, bids, publicity, perhaps
making a presentation at a community meeting at the Library,
etc.
B. Fuller House
The square footage of the upstairs is approximately 687
square feet. The downstairs is 1300 square feet .
Bill Byers reported on the work needed to finish the
upstairs which included stabilizing slat rails, finishing
window boxes and the closet around the flue, insulating
paneling, etc. (Bathroom to remain as is . ) He estimated

the cost to be approximately $2500 to $3000 .
Troy Fuller made a motion that Bill Byers and his helper get
started on the upstairs and be reimbursed for it. The
motion was seconded by Evelyn Himes . Motion passed.
II. Other Business
Docents for the Fuller House, May 13, 2000 will be Mr. &
Mrs . Troy Fuller. Docents for June 10 will be Iva and
Robert Nail . Fuller House in the months of July and August
will not be open and a notice to that effect should be
publicized. Docents for September 9 will be Mr. & Mrs . Bill
Byers .
Troy Fuller brought a 1918 safe to be placed in the museum.
Bill Byers displayed a poster which he framed of a newspaper
of the RODEO in years 1950-1953.
III. Rick Herold' s Report
Rick reported that he had several forms that he is reviewing
by other historical committees and he will come up with one
that he feels will be suitable for our use on items loaned
or donated to the museum. A copy will be forthcoming.
He suggested that we have a program to invite churches,
school classes to visit the Fuller House . Old Bedford
Schoolhouse is doing this and results are favorable.
He also suggested that the cover for the Log Cabin be
extended beyond to allow for a classroom setting, etc.
Committee members were invited to a 9 : 30 a.m. reception at
the VIP area for Robert Stanton, National Forestry Service
on April 28 . Following the reception at the Arbor Daze Site
will be the opening ceremonies for the Arbor Daze, 2000
(11 : 00 a.m. )
Vada Johnson reported that Billy Martin had an organ (old)
that will be donated to the Fuller House . Arrangements were
discussed to deliver it to the house .
Adjournment
Troy Fuller made a motion to adjourn, seconded by Helen
Payton. Meeting adjourned at 11 : 30 a.m.
