HomeMy WebLinkAbout2000-12-11 Euless Historical Preservation Committee Minutes December 11 , 2000 Members of the Euless Historical Preservation Committee met at 10 : 00 a.m. at the home of Helen Payton, 302 Oak Lane. Members Present Dan Burger, Michelle Burger, Bill Byers, Weldon Cannon, Troy Fuller, Evelyn Himes, Willie Mae McCormick, Iva Nail, Robert Nail, Helen Payton, Don Tharp and Jean Whitener. Staff Present Glenda Hartsell - Special Events Coordinator Rick Herold - Director of Parks and Community Services Guests Present Mayor Mary Lib Saleh and Patty Cannon Call to Order Chairman Bill Byers called the meeting to order at 10 : 00 a.m. Approval of Minutes After correcting address of Helen Payton to 302 Oak Lane and spelling corrections on page 2, a motion was made by Iva Nail and seconded by Michelle Burger to approve the minutes of the November 13, 2000 meeting. Motion passed. Old Business Treasurer Robert Nail reported a balance of $4116 . 48 . He has received bills for $192 . 99 for the Christmas Tree, $29. 88 for rag rugs for the Himes house and $50 . 00 for consultation for repairing the organ. Robert Nail also reported the Historical Committee has received a $750 . 00 donation to commemorate Pearl Harbor Day from Mrs . Willie Mae McCormick. Heritage Park Christmas Event Mayor Saleh thanked the committee for their work helping to make the Christmas Event at Heritage Park a success . The Committee discussed problems and ways to correct them: 1 . Suggestion to have wheel chair, organ and player piano in a roped area to prevent children from sitting in wheel chair and children and adults from playing organ and player piano . EHPC 121100 Mtg. Page 1 2 . Need "No Food or Drink" signs at the entrances to both houses . 3 . Start festivities earlier because of lighting at the Himes House. 4 . Sign needed at highway directing people to Heritage Park. 5 . Keep door to stairs locked in Fuller House and block stairs in Himes House . 6. Information and pictures needed in Himes House about move and history for visitors . 7 . Sign needed at gate to Himes House similar to one at Fuller House. New Business : Troy Fuller has a bid of $1410 . 00 to take apart and repair organ. Committee will try to get another bid. Rick Herold announced that the City is purchasing a new bus that will be available to pick up people needing transportation to see houses at Heritage Park. Troy Fuller has volunteered to make information cards for articles in the museum and will work with David Allen getting photographs and list of items in the computer. Evelyn Himes suggested having a well (dummy effect) in front of the Himes House . Troy Fuller announced that the Budget Committee for the Fuller House had requested $8, 000 for 2001 - City has allotted $10, 000 . Docents for January 14, 2001 will be Dan and Michele Burger and Jimmy and Helen Payton. Members have been asked to check their calendar so that dates could be filled for the year. Members were saddened to learn of the death of Helen Lightbody' s husband. A donation has been made to the Historical Committee in memory of Larry Lightbody by members of the Committee .
