HomeMy WebLinkAbout2001-01-08 Euless Historical Preservation Committee Minutes January 8, 2001 Members of the Euless Historical Preservation Committee met at 10 : 00 a.m. at the Fuller House, 203 Cullum Drive. Members Present Betty Fuller, Willie Mae McCormick, Helen Payton, Michelle Burger, Weldon Cannon, Jean Whitener, Bill Byers and Helen Lightbody Staff Present Glenda Hartsell - Special Events Coordinator Call to Order Members removed Christmas decorations from the Fuller House. Chairman Bill Byers called the meeting to order at 10 : 00 a.m. Approval of Minutes Corrections to the December 11 meeting minutes were made to reflect the attendance of Betty Fuller and Vada Johnson who arrived late. The docents for the month of January were at the Fuller House on January 13 not 14 . A motion was made by Betty Fuller to approve the December minutes with corrections . Michelle Burger seconded the motion and the motion passed. Old Business Heritage Park Christmas Event: Discussion was held indicating the event was fun and should be continued and improved upon for next year. Glenda Hartsell said the City' s primary goal in this event was to make the public aware of and see these houses . The time of year for the even was good. It is an event that interests all ages and we should program throughout this year in advance for the 2001 event. A suggestion was made by Jean Whitener that the loft of the Himes Log House be closed off to prevent access by visitors . Bill Byers mentioned a rope bed is available and a corn shook mattress will be provided. The homes survived the cold weather with no pipes broken. The commode in Himes Log Cabin needs special care EHPC 010801 Mtg. Page 1 by jiggling the handle when flushing to stop continuous running of water. Jean Whitener intends to locate old trunks for both houses . A register is needed for the Himes Log House for visitors to sign. Photos that Gary McKamie has will be preserved and made available for viewing. Weldon Cannon is working on the history of the Himes Log House. A suggestion was made that the Committee visit the Fort Worth Log Cabin Village . New Business: Docents for February will be Weldon Cannon, Jean Whitener, Evelyn Himes, Bill Byers and possibly some of their spouses . The Committee reviewed a brochure received by Bill Byers . It was suggested that Glenda have Rick Herold check on the Historical Plaque (local government program) as presented in this brochure to see if the Committee could qualify for any grants on this program. Weldon Cannon mentioned a 10. 4-acre tract west of Heritage Park was approved by the Planning and Zoning Commission for approximately 57 lots with houses for single families . Weldon will also be speaking at the Old Bedford School for the dedication for a historical marker for the Oak Grove Methodist Church. Dedication will be February 4 at 2 p.m. Committee members inquired as to the progress of Iva Nail' s surgery. Bill Byers said he is working to obtain a windmill.
