Staff Present Glenda Hartsell - Special Events Coordinator Guest Present Patty Benoit Call to Order Chairman Bill Byers called the meeting to order at 10 : 15 a.m. Approval of Minutes The Secretary read the minutes of the meeting held January 8, 2001 . Correction was made to the minutes that the problem commode was in the Fuller House not in the Himes Log House as indicated in the minutes . A motion was made by Weldon Cannon and seconded by Nell Hicks that the minutes be approved, as read, with the correction. The motion passed. (A copy of the minutes of January 8, 2001 will be included with this month' s minutes for your information. ) Old Business Discussion was held relative to hiring someone to clean the Fuller House. Michelle Burger volunteered to do the cleaning and perhaps we could hire someone to do deep cleaning periodically. The committee agreed to go along with Michelle' s suggestion. Some names were also mentioned that would possibly be hired in the future, if necessary. A Registry Book was provided by Michelle Burger for use at the Himes Log House . Docents for March 10, 2001 are Evelyn Himes and Jean Whitener. Since Gary McKamie has prints of the moving of the Himes Log House from its original location to Heritage Park, different EHPC 021201 Mtg. Page 1 methods of making copies of prints, reproducing them for use at the Library and schools and areas for publicizing the homes at Heritage Park were made . Glenda Hartsell mentioned that the City has a digital camera that could be made available for our use. Computer Usage: The Committee has had the computer for some time now and it has not been used to date, primarily because we have not had anyone available to work on it . We also need a chair for the computer. Robert Nail indicated that he had a neighbor who has expertise in this area and we should get started on putting the computer to use. Bill Byers will contact Diane Crawford to arrange for Betty Fuller to pick up the inventory lists she has so that we can proceed to input them on the computer. It was also suggested that we could make a disk for the computer giving the history of the Fuller House and Himes Log House as a tool for future use in providing information to visitors . The prints that Gary McKamie has could also be placed on the computer. Weldon Cannon reported that he was pleased with the Committee' s turnout for the dedication of the historical marker for the old Oak Grove Methodist Church. The marker is located at McClain and Oak Grove streets . Weldon is also speaking at TCC Continuing Education on Northeast Tarrant County History. New Business: Michelle Burger read a letter she wrote to the Committee suggesting we consider a contest for elementary grades in Euless . Her idea is to have students make a Log Cabin using "tootsie rolls" and awarding prizes for best entries . This would encourage more interest in the homes at Heritage Park. Betty Fuller will pursue working with the contact people at schools to arrange for field trips for school classrooms for the year 2002 . She will be the Program Chairman. Glenda Hartsell is considering using different pictures and current information about the homes in the quarterly "Euless Today" publication. It was also suggested that the Committee could offer different demonstrations, such as making butter, etc. Perhaps planting herbs, potatoes and cotton. The proposal will need to be EHPC 021201 Mtg. Page 2 discussed with Rick Herold to determine any liability that may be involved. Weldon Cannon will provide a brochure similar to the one we have for the Fuller House, for the Himes Log House. This will be made available for use by visitors, etc. Adjournment The meeting was adjourned at 12 : 05 p.m. Respectfully submitted by Helen Lightbody Secretary Euless Historical Preservation Committee EHPC 021201 Mtg.
