HomeMy WebLinkAbout2001-04-09 Euless Historical Preservation Committee Minutes April 9,2001 Call to Order Chairman Bill Byers called the meeting to order at 10:15 a.m. Members Present Troy Fuller, Weldon Cannon, Michelle Burger, Willa Mae McCormick,Bill Byers,Nell Hicks, Helen Payton,Betty Fuller, Vada Johnson, Iva Nail,Robert Nail and Helen Lightbody Staff Present Glenda Hartsell, Special Events Coordinator Guests Present Boyce Byers and June Gresham Approval of Minutes Motion was made by Troy Fuller and seconded by len Payton to approve the minutes of the March 12, 2001 meeting as presented. Motion passed. Old Business Dallas Trip to Arboretum and City Park Jimmy Beck, City Horticulturist and nine (9) members of the Euless Historical Preservation Committee visited the Dallas Arboretum and City Park ukn on March 20, mounds and the various lants on the various flower arrangements, the use of pine placed and vegetables. The City Park had approximately ten houses which included a Hotel, Log Cabin (which was about the same age as the Himes House— 1845-47); a schoolhouse with an operating printing press, bandstand, gazebo, which was built for the Centennial. The park is about 20 to 25 acres in size. A bank was moved in from Justin. Charges for the City Park were $3 and $5 for o the ttendtum Michelle mentioned that tickets are available for those members who were not able New Business: 1. Bill Byers mentioned that we now have an outhouse donated by Harvey Little. 2. Iva Nail has a cotton corder. Page 1 EHPC 041601 Mtg. 3. Michelle Burger reported that on March 26, 2001, she and Dan attended the General Granbury Celebration at the Granbury Historical Square. Mr. Chuck Rickgauer of Tolar, Texas had a booth promoting"The Windmill Farm". Michelle told Chuck about our Himes house and informed him that our Chairman, Bill Byers, was looking for a windmill to be donated to the City of Euless. Mr. Rickgauer became very interested and with further communication between Michelle, Bill Byers,Deputy City Manager Gary McKamie and Mayor Mary Lib Saleh, Chuck Rickgauer notified Michelle that he has a windmill to be donated to the City of Euless. Mark Welch from Benbrook has the windmill to donate and Chuck Rickgauer has the blade and tower. 4. Bill Byers suggested we make a trip to Tolar, Texas to view the"Windmill Farm". A date of April 16th was made to meet at the Fuller House at 9:30 a.m. The date was later changed to Thursday April 19`h. Approximately 9 committee members indicated they would like to go to Tolar. 5. Michelle Burger inquired as to whether the Fuller House has been captured on film. She further mentioned that her sister, Judy Kelly, works for Kelly Productions of Dallas. Judy is a Drama Professor at the University of Dallas and worked with the City of Dallas' year 2000 restoration of the"Pegasus of Mobil Oil" sign. The estimated cost for the effort to provide a promotional film for the two homes would run from$12,000 to $15,000. Glenda Hartsell will check into the feasibility of this suggestion. 6. Troy Fuller is working with David Allen and others to develop a web site on the computer. 7. Further effort is being made to get the donated organ in a workable condition. Committee members would like to be able to play a few small tunes on it. 8. Weldon Cannon submitted a preliminary copy of information to be presented in the brochure for Himes Log House. Members were asked to review the material and offer any suggestions for final copy. He is also incorporating material from his previous history of the Himes Log House. 9. Weldon Cannon had some concern that the signs indicating"Entering City of Euless" and "Historical" sites are not adequate on the north and west sides of the City. 10. Glenda Hartsell mentioned the"Dog Daze of Summer" will be held May 12th at the Villages of Bear Creek Park. 11. Docents for May open house on the 12th of May will be Bill and Boyce Byers and Dan and Michelle Burger.
