Minutes
February 11, 2002
Call to Order
Chairman Bill Byers called the meeting to order at 10:00 a.m.

Approval of Minutes
A correction was made to the minutes of January 14, 2002 by Robert Nail, under Item 1 of"New
Business", line 3_ The word"organ" should be used instead of"piano." The correction was noted.
A motion was made by Bill Byers and seconded by Michelle Burger to approve the minutes of the
January meeting with above correction. Motion passed.
Old Business
1. Visit to Fuller and Himes houses by third grade students on February 26, 2002.
Third graders are scheduled to start their tour at the Old Bedford Schoolhouse. They will then
Have lunch and proceed to the Ruth Millican Center. Approximately 100 students will tour the
homes in groups of 25. The other students at the Center will be entertained with different
activities by members of the Euless Historical Preservation Committee. There will be roping, a
tea party, a demonstration of butter making, a display of lunch boxes and some baby chickens.
Committee members volunteering to assist were Ralph Williamson, Weldon Cannon, Bill
Byers, Evelyn Mimes, Robert Nail, Michelle Burger, Betty Fuller and Glenda Hartsell.
New Business

1. Betty Fuller stated that she had communication with the administration of Oakwood Terrace
Elementary and they would like to have a similar presentation for their third graders. The date
set was Tuesday, March 5, 2002. They will arrive at the Ruth Millican Center at approximately
at 12:45 p.m. Tuesday and leave by 1:40 p.m. They anticipate about 72 students, teachers and
helpers for this tour.
2. Weldon Cannon has submitted the paperwork for the new brochure to be used at the limes
Log House. Copies of this paperwork will be provided to the teachers prior to the tour dates.
Committee members volunteered to also be available on this date.
3. Glenda Hartsell reminded the Committee that the date for the Open House at Midway
Recreation Center will be Saturday, February 23, 2002. The City of Euless Open House will
be Saturday, March 23, 2002 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Eight Euless facilities will be conducting
tours for the citizens.
4. Weldon Cannon showed the pictures her acquired from the Fort Worth Star Telegram archives
—UTA Library. These were relating to the history of the Himes Log House.
5. Ralph Williamson mentioned that he had an interest in helping homeless veterans. He
requested that any members discarding clothing, etc. he would appreciate them calling him and
donating the clothing to the homeless veterans.
6. Craig Ward also mentioned that he would be happy to assist anyone in documentation of their
remembrances as Veterans.
7. Vada Johnson will be giving a history of Mosier Valley at the Grapevine Library Wednesday,
February 12, 2002 at 7 p.m.
8. Docents for February 2, 2002 were Betty Fuller and Vada Johnson. They had seven visitors.
Docent for March will be Troy Fuller.
9. Michelle Burger mentioned the activities of the Texas Historical Commissions. On Thursday,
February 21, 2002 a meeting will be held at the Irving Central Public Library. The agenda of
the workshop will include"Main Street," "Heritage Trails" and a program we hope to
participate in entitled"Visionaries on Preservation Programs and Application Guidelines." The
next application for this program is scheduled for May 2002. Michelle mentioned it would be
good to have a staff member attend this meeting. Historical Preservation Certification will be
held April 18—20, 2002 in Abilene, Texas.
Adjournment
Robert Nail motioned to adjourn the meeting. The motion was seconded by Betty Fuller. Meeting
adjourned at 11:18 a.m.
