HomeMy WebLinkAbout2002-04-08 Euless Historical Preservation Committee Minutes April 8, 2002 Call to Order Vice Chairman Michelle Burger called the meeting to order at 10:55 a.m. Members Present Weldon Cannon, Robert Nail, Iva Nail, Troy Fuller, Helen Payton, Jean Whitener, Willie Mae McCormick, Don Tharp, Ralph Williamson, Craig Ward, Betty Fuller, Michelle Burger and Helen Lightbody Staff Present Glenda Hartsell, Special Events Coordinator Treasurer's Report Robert Nail, Treasurer, reported a balance of$4031.06. There were no disbursements this month. Approval of Minutes Troy Fuller motioned that we approve the minutes of the March 11, 2002 meeting. Weldon Cannon seconded motion. Motion passed. Old Business 1. Discussion was held reviewing the history of the genealogy section in the Euless Library. _-_ Weldon Cannon mentioned that the Mid Cities Genealogy Society which covers a large area of Tarrant County, meets at the City of Euless Library. We have an asset in Euless and need to encourage the Genealogy Department. Space is being provided for this purpose. 2. Thank you notes have been sent to the contributors of the activities provided for the benefit of the 31d Graders' tour of the Fuller and Himes Homes on February 26, 2002. Notes were sent to Jay C. Seals, Rhonda Duhon, Walter Fisher, Nina Sampson, Kathy Clark and Cynthia Bohnenblust. 3. Iva Nail mentioned that Cynthia Bohnenblust would be available to demonstrate weaving if we set up an appointment with her. New Business 1. Glenda Hartsell mentioned that the students from South Euless Elementary School would be at Heritage Park from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, April 16. There will be some 120 students and they would like to visit the Fuller and Himes Homes. Ralph Williamson, Robert EHPC 040802 Mtg. Page 1 and Iva Nail, Troy Fuller and Michelle Burger have volunteered to be available to show the homes. 2. Weldon Cannon has selected a group of 35 photos and he, with the help of Patty, are preparing a computerized program which covers approximately 30 to 40 minutes. They reflect the history of Euless, such as the plane crash, Bedford Basketball team, etc. He will present this program to the Committee on May 13, 2002. 3. Iva NO received numerous letters from 4th graders thanking the Committee on the program presented during their tour of the Fuller and Himes Homes. The letters were very interesting. 4. Glenda Hartsell mentioned that Rick Herold is reviewing the application for"Visionaries in Preservation Program." 5. Troy Fuller discussed concerns with the utilization of the computer. He would like the work already completed to become part of the City of Euless Web Page. It appears that to accomplish this is not difficult but has not been done to date. Craig Ward volunteered to contact Rick Herold and work with him to accomplish this effort. This will put the computer to better advantage. Discussion was held on preparing a disk. 6. Troy Fuller recommended that we keep the Homes open on Saturday even in the summer months when we do not meet as a committee. The committee favored this suggestion and volunteers to be docents for the month of May are Dan and Michelle Burger. June—Iva and Robert Nail. July—Troy Fuller and August—Weldon Cannon. 7. Glenda Hartsell gave a report on the April Trash Off. 100 people volunteered to pick up trash on Hwy 10 and Bear Creek Park. The Arbor Daze program is in full scale with super entertainers. Three radio stations are participating. Coupon from the Euless Today magazine can be redeemed for_free_parking_at the Raven's Grille.-Anyone wanting to-volunteer-should contact Jerry Poteet. 8. Iva Nail brought in some brushes that were used to clean horses. Adjournment Troy Fuller made the motion to adjourn. Don Tharp seconded the motion.
