HomeMy WebLinkAbout2002-05-13 Euless Historical Preservation Committee Minutes May 13, 2002 Call to Order Chairman Bill Byers called the meeting to order at 10:15 a.m. Members Present Willie Mae McCormick, Weldon Cannon, Don Tharp, Betty Fuller, Bill Byers, Michelle Burger, Helen Payton, Craig Ward, Jean Whitener, Evelyn Himes, Vada Johnson, Ralph Williamson, Robert Nail, Iva Nail and Helen Lightbody Staff Present Glenda Hartsell, Special Events Coordinator Special Guest: Patty Benoit Treasurer's Report Treasurer Robert Nail reported that there was no changed from the report he gave last month and we have a balance of$4031.06. Approval of Minutes Michele Burger made a motion that we approve the minutes of the April 8th meeting. Don Tharp seconded the motion. Motion passed. Old Business 1. Michele Burger reported that she and Dan Burger had 8 guests on their Open House Saturday. On April 16, some 132 children ate lunch at Heritage Park and then visited the Fuller House and the Himes Log House. Troy Fuller, Ralph Williamson and Michele Burger escorted 15 children at a time touring the homes. Michele mentioned that for the committee members who hadn't noticed some items that were added to the homes—they might want to visit the garden, the windmill and the outhouse at the Log House. She said there also was some chink missing between the logs at the Log House. Bill Byers will attempt to replace it. 2. Glenda Hartsell reported that the City of Euless will be celebrating its' 50th Anniversary and there will be a few small celebrations and one large celebration. The City will forward a letter giving all the details. 3. A film presentation created by Patty Benoit and Weldon Cannon was shown. Pictures started EHPC 051302 Mtg. Page 1 in the early 1900's. The presentation was excellent and required substantial work on their part. New Business 1. Iva Nail mentioned that Cynthia Bohnenblust would be willing to display her weaving during the Open House on June 8. Suggestions were discussed to have some completed items available on display similar to a display seen in Irving. The Committee also would like to have some signs made to advertise that the museum will be open on that Saturday. The signs could be placed at strategic points on Friday night and removed by Saturday morning. 2. Vickie Baum has loaned a trunk to the Historical Preservation Committee and it is being prepared for display at the Fuller House. The Committee is most grateful to Vickie for her interest in historical preservation. 3. Craig Ward reported that he is working with Dan McLain, Rick Herold and Glenda Hartsell of the City to establish a web site to become part of the Euless Web Page. 4. Michele Burger inquired as to the progress of the application for"Visionaries in Preservation Program." Glenda Hartsell suggested that Michele meet with her to fill out the form, which provides the goals and objectives and what the Committee was planning with this application. 5. Bill Byers submitted a bill to the treasurer for$156.72 to cover the purchase of the U. S. flag and the cable to support it. 6. June 10, 2002 will be the last Committee meeting until September. Helen Payton has invited the Committee to her home for the meeting and luncheon. We will meet at 302 Oak Lane, Euless at 10:00 a.m. 7. The Fuller House and Himes Log House will remain open on the second Saturday of each month during July and August. Docents in June are Iva and Robert Nail. Docent in July will be Troy Fuller. Docent in August will be Weldon Cannon. Adjournment Helen Lightbody motioned to adjourn the meeting. Evelyn Himes seconded the motion.
