Minutes
October 14, 2002
Call to Order
In the absence of Chairman Bill Byers, Vice Chairman Michele Burger called the meeting to order at
10:00 A.M.
Members Present
Iva Nail, Robert Nail, Vada Johnson, Ralph Williamson, Michele Burger, Betty Fuller, Willie Mae
McCormick, Weldon Cannon, Troy Fuller, Craig Ward, Don Tharp, Evelyn Himes, Jean Whitener and
Helen Lightbody.
Staff Present
Glenda Hartsell-Shelton, Special Events Coordinator.
Visitor
Leon Hogg, City Council Member.
Treasurer's Report
Treasurer Robert Nail reported that we have a balance of$3814.94 and a cash receipt of$44 for
cleaning supplies.
Approval of Minutes
Troy Fuller made a motion to approve the minutes for the September 8, 2002 meeting. Iva Nail
seconded the motion. Motion passed.
Old Business
1. 50th Anniversary- City of Euless
a. Glenda Hartsell-Shelton mentioned the tapes of Iron Bridge will be transferred to
CD's. She has 14 tapes both in video and audio.
b. Glenda Hartsell-Shelton also gave an update on current ssecial events.
1. Teriki's Polynesian Dance Revue was October 12 at the Villages of Bear
Creek. There were about 100 people in attendance and everything went
well.
2. Tommy Alverson along with Sun Rush will perform on October 19th at

the Texas Star Golf Course.
3. Terri Hendrix will perform on October 26th at the Villages of Bear Creek.
4. The Halloween Thing will be at the City Hall courtyard on October 31st.
c. Lori De La Cruz, Communications/Marketing Manager, reported that she is
working on a 64 page commemorative book. This will be available by April 17,
2003. Trinity High School will also perform a play on April 24th at the Arbor Daze
site. This play will be about the history of Euless.
d. The Heritage Park Christmas 50th Anniversary Reception will be at the Ruth
Millican Center on December 14, 2002. Previous Mayors, City Council Members,
etc. will be honored. If you know of individuals who should be included, please
give Lori De La Cruz his or her name. The Heritage Park Christmas Celebration
will be held after the reception.
e. A Web site link containing the history of the Himes Log Cabin& museum items
will be available by January 2003.
New Business
1. Iva Nail suggested that since December is a busy month, our Christmas Dinner be held after
our November 11th meeting. She spoke with Helen Peyton and Helen volunteered to provide
turkey and dressing as well as host the dinner at her home. A sign up sheet was passed around
for what each person will bring.
2. Michele Burger informed the group that the owner of Al's Hamburgers will drive his car in the
Christmas Parade of Lights. Robert Nail will ride his bicycle.
3. Weldon Cannon reported that he has completed wording of the Bedford Historical Marker.
He also inquired on the whereabouts of the Birds Fort Marker. He had been informed that
both the Birds Fort and Mosier Valley markers were removed and stored at the Court House in
Fort Worth for safekeeping.
4. Weldon also reported that he finished work on the history (beginning to 1950) of the First
United Methodist Church of Euless. Norma Lively will provide history from 1950 to the
present. Once this is done, it will enable them to get the State Historical Marker and
Medallion.
5. Committee members inquired about the shirts that were ordered. It was suggested that these
be worn for upcoming December events.
6. Glenda Hartsell-Shelton spoke with Gary McKamie, Deputy City Manager, regarding
placement of the two original signs for the Iron Bridge at McCormick Park. Mr. McKamie
said he would be glad to work with Ms. McCormick on placement of the signs at the gazebo.
Leon Hogg suggested that replicas be made and displayed at the McCormick Park gazebo
instead of the originals.
7. Leon Hogg will be inducted into the Sports Hall of Fame at the Pat May Owen Center on
February 1, 2003.

8. Dan and Michele Burger were docents for last Saturday. There were 8 visitors.
9. Docent for November 9`h will be Ralph Williamson.
10. Volunteers were requested for Christmas at Heritage Park on December 14`h.
11. Troy Fuller and Robert Nail took pictures of all the tools in the tool room with a digital
camera.
12. Ralph Williamson requested names and phone numbers of all veterans in Euless. All veterans
will be invited to the ceremony for the Veteran Stadium in Euless.
Adjournment
Vice Chairman Michele Burger adjourned the meeting at 12:00 P.M.
