HomeMy WebLinkAbout2002-12-09 Historical Preservation Committee Minutes December 09, 2002 Call to Order Chairman Bill Byers called the meeting to order at 10:15 a.m. Members Present Michele Burger, Bill Byers, Betty Fuller, Troy Fuller, Willie Mae McCormick, Iva Nail, Robert Nail, Helen Payton, Weldon Cannon and Don Tharp Staff Present Glenda Hartsell-Shelton, Special Events Coordinator Suzanne Hendrickson, Recreation Manager Deitre Burns, Community Relations and Events Supervisor Treasurer's Report Treasurer, Robert Nail reported a balance of$3814.94. Approval of Minutes The following corrections were made to last months minutes: 1. Under Old Business No. 4-the 50`h Anniversary Reception at Ruth Millican Center will also include tours of the Fuller House and Himes Log House. 2. Under Old Business No. 7-the date on the post card was 1908 not 1897 and the spelling of Euless should be E-n-1-e-s-s not E-n-1-i-s-s. 3. Under Old Business No. 8-Committee members received shirts not T-shirts. 4. In addition, Suzanne Hendrickson received a request from a quilters group asking permission to meet in the Fuller House. After discussion, Committee members agreed to allow the quilters club to meet in the Fuller House on Thursday mornings. Troy Fuller made a motion for the minutes to be approved with the corrections and additions. Betty Fuller seconded the motion. Motion was passed. Old Business 1. Bill Byers will have the heater installed in Himes Log House by December 12t. The City of Euless will pay for the heater. 2. The Committee discussed final plans for Education Day, December 12th. Students from Meadow Creek Elementary School will arrive at 12:30 p.m. Committee members were asked to report to Heritage Park by 12 p.m. Betty Fuller will have a rotation list of demonstrations for students to follow. She will also have a list of duties for Committee members and Staff support. (See two sheets attached) 3. Saturday December 14, will be the beginning of Euless' 50th Anniversary Celebration. Fuller House will be open at 1:00 p.m.,program at the Ruth Millican Center will start at 2:00 p.m., activities and demonstrations will be from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Historical Preservation Committee members and staff will complete Christmas decorations of Fuller House and Himes Log House today. Committee members will trade off between working the Mayor's Reception and giving tours of Fuller House and Himes Log House. Iva Nail made a motion to purchase a fresh flower arrangement for the Fuller House dining table for December 14th. Troy Fuller seconded the motion. Motion was passed. New Business 1. Weldon Cannon announced that Evelyn Fitch will have her 92nd birthday party at the Old Bedford School on January 5th, 2003 from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. 2. Iva Nail has a watercolor on loan from Norma Lively, a local artist, for the Fuller House. Ms. Lively has volunteered to change the picture periodically. Betty Fuller suggested writing Ms. Lively a thank you note. Iva Nail agreed to write the note. 3. Robert Nail informed the Committee that Gary McKamie brought a City of Euless 50th Anniversary Christmas ornament to go on the Christmas tree at Fuller House. 4. Michele Burger has a picture of Sonny Fisher of Granbury shaking hands with the late President John F. Kennedy for display at Fuller House. The picture is signed by JFK. 5. Troy Fuller has an aerial photo of Euless that was taken in 1944. He will look into getting another photo for Fuller House. 6. Jim Hunsuckle from the Parks Department will be getting trees from three of the older residences in Euless (Willie Mae McCormick, Ed Cromer and Willie Mae Huffman Byers)to Plant in Heritage Park. 7. Bill Byers and Weldon Cannon will be docents January 12, 2003.
