HomeMy WebLinkAbout2003-01-13 Historical Preservation Committee Minutes January 13, 2003 Call to Order Chairman Bill Byers called the meeting to order at 10: 10 a.m. Members Present Craig Ward, Ralph Williamson, Robert Nail, Iva Nail, Weldon Cannon, Betty Fuller, Michele Burger, Helen Payton, Bill Byers and Dan Clark, new member. Staff Present Suzanne Hendrickson, Recreation Manager Deitre Burns, Community Relations and Events Supervisor Treasurer's Report Treasurer, Robert Nail reported a $250.00 donation from Willie Mae McCormick. The Committee spent $39.99 for flower arrangements for the open house during Euless' 50th Anniversary celebration. This left a balance of$4,024.85. Approval of Minutes Corrections were made under New Business to show that Evelyn Fitch celebrated her 90th birthday not her 92nd. Robert Nail made a motion for the minutes to be approved with the correction. Ralph Williamson seconded the motion. Motion passed. Old Business 1. The kick off of the 50th Anniversary went well. Bill Byers counted 119 visitors signatures on the register but he felt that at least 200 visitors visited the Fuller House and Himes Log House. Teachers were asked to sign the register on Education Day and to note the number of students attending. 2. Michele Burger thanked Committee members for helping at Education Day. 3. The Committee thanked Betty Fuller for making the activities list and for scheduling the events for Education Day. 4. Suzanne Hendrickson reported that there are no 50th Anniversary activities until Arbor Daze. 5. Weldon Cannon questioned dates of Euless' incorporation stated in the Euless Today magazine. Suzanne Hendrickson will check with Lori De La Cruz on accuracy of these dates. New Business 1. Michele Burger suggested that since this is the City's 50th year that the Committee light a candle at the beginning of each meeting in memory of deceased leaders. A suggestion was made to make a notebook of deceased that were active in various offices such as School Boards, City Council, Committees, etc. (Weldon Cannon has a list of school board members. Present school district was established in 1925). Members were asked to make suggestions at the next meeting. 2. In 1931 Jewel Posey was attending SMU working on the Bachelor of Divinity. She choose to do her thesis on the Euless area. Mrs. Posey and a Mrs. Smith visited 200 to 250 homes. They wrote an essay on these families. This bound thesis is archived at the SMU Library. The Committee expressed interest in having a copy for the Fuller House. Weldon Cannon has copied the thesis and will make a copy for the Fuller House. 3. Weldon Cannon prepared information for a brochure on the Himes Log House last year. The Committee asked Suzanne Hendrickson to check on what happened to this information. 4. The Committee discussed having signs in various places around the City to advertise the"Open House" at the Fuller House and Himes Log House. It was decided that six(6) signs were needed plus one (1)permanent sign to be posted at the Library. Suzanne Hendrickson will check on obtaining these signs. 5. Iva Nail and Michele Burger suggested the Committee celebrate each member's birthdays at the meetings each month. 6. Docents for February 8th will be Jimmy and Helen Payton and Dan Clark. Adjournment Weldon Cannon made a motion to adjourn the meeting. Michele Burger seconded the motion. Meeting adjourned at 11:14 am.
