HomeMy WebLinkAbout2003-03-10 Euless Historical Preservation Committee Minutes March 10, 2003 Call to Order Chairman Bill Byers called the meeting to order at 10:15 A.M. Members Present Ralph Williamson, Craig Ward, Evelyn Himes, Willie Mae McCormick, Chris Jones, Weldon Cannon, Dan Clark, Betty Fuller, Bill Byers, Robert Nail, Iva Nail, Michele Burger, Helen Lightbody, Don Tharp. Staff Present Suzanne Hendrickson, Recreation Manager Deitre Burns, Community Relations and Events Supervisor Treasurer's Report Treasurer Robert Nail reported that we have a balance of$3987.92 and cash receipts of$37.03 for three doorbells for Fuller House. Approval of Minutes Michele Burger made a motion to approve the minutes for last month's meeting. Weldon Cannon seconded the motion. Motion passed. Old Business 1. The sidewalk around Fuller House has been installed and it looks great. 2. There were five visitors for this month. One of them was a photographer who is doing a project on Heritage Park for Trinity High School. 3. Michele Burger informed the Committee that The Old Bedford School canceled their visit on Feb. 27`h due to weather but they will re-schedule. 4. Betty Fuller reminded the Committee of Oakwood Terrace's Education Day on April 10th, 2003 from 12:30pm to 1:30pm. Setup will start at 11:45pm. Robert Nail,Michele Burger, Weldon Cannon, Bill Byers, Ralph Williamson, Betty Fuller and Don Clark volunteered to work that day. Parks and Community Services will provide 4 staff to help with Education Day. EHPC 031003 Mtg. Page 1 5. Michele Burger mentioned that the parking lot seems to be crumbling and needs to be fixed. She also mentioned that there are wasps' nests upstairs in the Himes Log House. 6. Craig Ward asked about the information on the cable channel for information on Euless Veterans and what the city is doing with this information. Ralph Williamson explained that the information is so the City can identify and recognize veterans who live or have lived in our Community. 7. Dan Clark passed around a sample of the History Book of Euless that he has been working on. Dan volunteered to put the book together if someone else would do the text and select the photographs for it. Names of City Council members and School Board members will be included in the book. 8. Suzanne Hendrickson gave Committee members the proposed information that is to go in the Hines Log House brochure. She also requested anyone with pictures relevant to the brochure to forward them to her. It was suggested that Bill Marcus has pictures that could be included in the brochure. 9. Suzanne Hendrickson also mentioned that Trinity High School is working on a play on the history of Euless. This will be performed at the 50th Anniversary Celebration on April 24`h. New Business 1. Helen Payton's father passed away Friday morning. Visitation&Rosary will be at Brown Funeral Home at 6pm today. Service will be at Holy Family Catholic Church on March 11th at 10:30am, graveside will follow at Calvary Cemetery. Iva Nail made a motion for a collection to be taken up, Evelyn Himes seconded the motion. Motion passed. 2. Weldon Cannon passed out information he received from the United Methodist Historical Society meeting in regard to the survey that Jewel Posey did on Euless in 1931. 3. Larry Crowder, a local artist, contacted Bill Byers about making a bust of Adam Euless. The Committee decided to bring the artist in to discuss the idea. Weldon Cannon motioned to invite the artist for the April meeting. Betty Fuller seconded the motion. Motion passed. 4. It was decided that the flags for Heritage Park needed to be replaced. Ralph Williamson made a motion to have them replaced and Betty Fuller seconded the motion. The Committee decided that the flags will be replaced with 3' x 5' all weather ones. 5. Suzanne Hendrickson reported that The City of Euless has received a grant from Texas Parks and Wildlife to have a Nature Trail built. The trail will include a historical tree farm. Suzanne also reported that Texas Trash Off will be Saturday April 5th and the Easter Egg Hunt will be Saturday April 12th. She further reported that there will be free parking coupons for Euless residents in the Euless Today magazine. EHPC 031003 Mtg. Page 2 6. Docents for April will be Betty Fuller and Robert Nail.
