HomeMy WebLinkAbout2003-04-14 Euless Historical Preservation Committee Minutes April 14, 2003 Call to Order Chairman Bill Byers called the meeting to order at 10:12 A.M. Members Present Helen Payton, Evelyn Himes, Willie Mae McCormick, Iva Nail, Michele Burger, Ralph Williamson, Robert Nail, Dan Clark, Chris Jones, Weldon Cannon, Betty Fuller, Bill Byers, Helen Lightbody. Staff Present Suzanne Hendrickson, Recreation Manager Deitre Burns, Community Relations and Events Supervisor Visitors Larry Crowder Veva Lou Massey Ofa Faiva-Siale Treasurer's Report Treasurer Robert Nail reported that we have a balance of $4028.96. Approval of Minutes Ralph Williamson made a motion for the minutes to be approved. Evelyn Himes seconded the motion. Motion passed. Old Business 1. It was reported that 122 students from Oakwood Terrace Elementary visited Heritage Park. 2. Robert Nail reported that 14 people toured Himes Log House and Fuller House on Saturday, April 12th. Michele Burger reported that an additional 4 visitors toured the two houses. The total number of people that visited was 18. 3. Betty Fuller apologized that she was not able to work with Troy Fuller on Saturday, April 12th. EHPC 041403 Mtg. Page 1 4. Bill Byers noted that the Committee received a"thank you" card for the flowers that was sent to the Payton family. New Business 1. Larry Crowder, an artist who works with busts, introduced himself to the Committee. He provided written as well as documented samples of his previous works. It was estimated that the bust would cost approximately $40,000 and it would take 5-6 months to finish. Mr. Crowder mentioned that payments are to be done in thirds. One third is to be paid up-front, one third to be paid after the clay is done and approved for the foundry and one third is to be paid upon delivery. Mr. Crowder also stated that he would need a letter of intent and/or endorsement from the City of Euless before he can start work on Mr. Euless' bust. 2 One of Mr. Euless' descendants has a very good clear photo that could be used for the bust. Robert Nail volunteered to obtain this photo to use as a model. 3. Bill Byers and Robert Nail inquired after the possibility of a life size statue of Mr. Euless. 4. Robert Nail reported that he visited Vada Johnson and she is doing well. 5. Suzanne Hendrickson reported that the all weather flags would cost between $400 and $500. She mentioned that monthly open house information will be included in the waterbill. Suzanne also reported that Trinity High School's drama department would be performing a play depicting the past 50 years of Euless' history on April 24t. 6. Iva Nail inquired about the possibility of having a full time employee for the Historical Preservation Committee. 7. Iva Nail mentioned that she would like Fuller House and Himes Log House to be open for tourist weekly instead of monthly. 8. Michele Burger reported that she has antique ornaments that could be used to decorate our Christmas tree. 4. Docents for April will be Chris Jones and Bill Byers.
