June 9, 2003
Call to Order
Chairman Bill Byers called the meeting to order at 10:13 A.M.
Members Present

Treasurer's Report

Treasurer Robert Nail reported a balance of $4,028.96.
Approval of Minutes
The following corrections were made to last month's minutes:
1. Under Members Present: Helen Payton, Don Tharp, Troy Fuller and Craig Ward were
present at the last meeting but were not listed as such.
2. Under New Business item#1: Jay's last name is spelled R-o-t-t-a-m not R-o-d-o-n and
Tom Butler's house is located in Tarrant, not Tarrant County.
Weldon Cannon made a motion for the minutes to be passed with the corrections. Robert Nail
seconded the motion. Motion passed.
Old Business
1. Johnnie Green gave Bill Byers a quote from a tree service company who can move the
Magnolia tree from First United Methodist Church to Heritage Park. Bill Byers will check
with Jerry Maloney of First United Methodist Church today on whether the Church is planning

to relocate the Magnolia tree to a different location on the property or will they get rid of it. If
the Church decides to get rid of the tree, the City of Euless will have it re-planted at Heritage
Park on the south side of the Fuller House. It will cost $400 to move and re-plant the tree.
Troy Fuller motioned for this to pass. Weldon Cannon seconded the motion. Motion passed.
2. Open House will be on Saturday, June 14th• Docents were asked to put out signs at any of the
following locations:
a. Southwest side of Home Depot along FM 157
b. In front of La Quinta Inn
c. Library-on the north sidewalk
d. Library-median in front of the Library by the 2 water meters
e. In front of the Post Office
f. On the corner by Taco Bell
g. On the north end of the First United Methodist Church along Main St.
3. Weldon Cannon briefly discussed his upcoming trip to Bedford, TN.
4. It was mentioned that the garden at Heritage Park really looked great. Jimmy Beck will plant
pumpkins on the property.
New Business
1. Weldon Cannon mentioned that he gave a copy of the Bedford County history book to the
Euless Public Library and the Bedford Public Library. JoAnn Rogers from the Euless Library
asked Weldon Cannon to possibly give a presentation on the history of Euless. Mr. Cannon
agreed to give a presentation on Monday, July 14th at 7:00 p.m. at the Library. Furthermore, it
was agreed that another presentation would be done on Monday, Aug. 1 lth at 7:00 p.m. on
street names in Euless. Robert Nail was asked to do a presentation on the Post Office and
Troy Fuller was asked to give a presentation at some point in the future.
2. JoAnn Rogers indicated to Weldon Cannon that she would like to attend one of the
Historical Preservation Committee meeting to gather ideas for future programs. Committee
members agreed that it would be a good idea.
3. Alex Horton spoke with Mr. Byers regarding a rolling display case where artifacts of Euless'
history could be displayed. This case could be moved to various locations around the City.
4. Troy Fuller mentioned that he disagreed with who is recorded as first and second Mayor of
Euless. He stated that County records are incorrect and that Homer H. Fuller was the first
Mayor of Euless and R. Warren Fuller was the second Mayor.
5. Mayor Mary Lib Saleh announced that the City would be hosting a Veterans Celebration in
November. Veterans are encouraged to call Linda Turbeville so they may be recognized at the
ceremony.
6. Jay Rottam gave Bill Byers two steel traps for the Log House.

7. Weldon Cannon reported that he is still working on the history of the First United Methodist
ChurchofEuless. Mr. Cannon also encouraged local churches to write down its history so that
a record may be kept on their history.
8. Suzanne Hendrickson handed out sample copies of the Himes Log House brochure for
committee members to proof and return to her. She mentioned that there was a Himes family
reunion at Heritage Park on May 31 st
.
9. Jimmy Beck is still looking into the possibility of moving the Fig Tree from Main St. to
Heritage Park. Bill Byers mentioned that he will get with Jimmy Beck regarding this project.
10. Due to the fact that so much history is being discussed at meetings, Robert Nail suggested that
the meetings be recorded. Committee members were agreeable to the suggestion and Craig
Ward offered to record the meetings as he has all the equipment needed to do this. Robert Nail
motioned for this to pass, Weldon Cannon seconded the motion. Motion passed.
11. Iva Nail thanked Jimmy and Helen Payton for opening up their home for the committee to hold
it's meeting.
Adjournment
The meeting adjourned at 11:55 a.m. by Bill Byers and was seconded by Troy Fuller.
