Minutes
December 8, 2003
Call to Order
Chairman Bill Byers called the meeting to order at 10:16 a.m.
Members Present
Bill Byers, Michele Burger, Helen Payton, Iva Nail, Robert Nail, Troy Fuller, Craig Ward,
Willie Mae McCormick, Betty Fuller, Don Tharp, Jean Whitener, Nell Hicks, Thomas Stover,

No report was given.
Approval of Minutes
Betty Fuller motioned for the minutes to be approved. Iva Nail seconded the motion. Motion
passed.
Old Business
1. Suzanne Hendrickson reported on the following:
a. Handouts on the Heritage Park Christmas celebration were distributed to
committee members. Suzanne discussed the timeline and various displays that
committee members will man.
b. Reported that the first choir to sing will also sing happy birthday to the Himes Log
House and there will also be a birthday cake in the shape of a log house. The
birthday cake will be cut and given out to everyone inside a tent near the Himes
Log House.

c. There will be a candy cane hunt.
d. Reported that the Parks Department will be working at Heritage Park on Friday.
The light pole previously discussed will be ready by Saturday and all the light
decorations will be done by then also.
e. Parks will hang the "Merry Christmas" sign that Michele Burger offered on Friday.
f. The Parks Department will be purchasing a live tree for the Himes Log House.
g. An inquiry was made regarding who will provide corn for the corn grinder
demonstration. Suzanne will provide it.
h. Robert Nail inquired about portable toilet availability for public usage. Suzanne
Hendrickson will have the restrooms at the Ruth Millican Center open for the
public to use.
2. Bill Byers discussed the following in regards to Heritage Park Christmas:
a. Asked committee members to report by 1:00 p. m.
b. It was questioned whether there would be a heater in the Himes Log House. Bill
Byers offered to put a portable heater in the Himes Log House for the celebration.
c. Bill Byers will have an agitator for the clothes washer demonstrations.
d. Mr. Byers informed committee members to wear period appropriate costumes or
their denim staff shirts for the event.
3. Betty Fuller will provide clothes for the wash tub demonstration. She will also talk about
cooking processes during the 1800's.
4. Helen Payton will give the wash tub demonstration. Mrs. Payton also mentioned the
possibility of having a washboard for her demonstration.
5. Betty Fuller and Helen Payton volunteered to decorate the Christmas tree at the Fuller
House.
6. Michele Burger asked Suzanne Hendrickson whether the red wagon could be used for
decoration purposes. Suzanne indicated that would be fine.
7. Several committee members inquired about their nametags. Committee members'
nametags will be at the Fuller House for the event on Saturday.
8. Jean Whitener asked whether people would be allowed to tour the upstairs of the Himes
Log House. Committee members agreed that it would be okay. Bill Byers will provide
lighting for the upstairs. Suzanne Hendrickson will also provide light trees to help light up
the house.
9. Michele Burger mentioned that she placed a Historical Preservation Committee sign on
one of the yards across from the "Rec"center for the parade on Saturday. It was
mentioned that the sign was still out there. Mr. Byers will go by and pick up the sign.

New Business
1. It was reported that Helen Lightbody broke her foot and that she is currently rehabilitating
at Parkwood Nursing Center.
2. New members Jeffery Clay and Thomas Stover were introduced to the committee.
3. Bill Byers mentioned that several committee members attended the City Hall re-grand
opening on Saturday. He also reported that the new City Hall really looked great.
4. Jean Whitener donated a trunk to the museum. The trunk has been placed at the Fuller
House.
5. Evelyn Himes donated a quilt that she pieced together herself. Mrs. Himes has had this
quilt since before she got married.
6. A brief discussion was held regarding Vada Johnson's mail. Betty Fuller mentioned that
Mrs. Johnson is no longer able to read her mail and that it may be better not to send them
to her anymore. Ralph Williamson will inquire with the family on what should be done.
Adjournment
Chair, Bill Byers motioned for the meeting to adjourn. Motion passed. The meeting
adjourned at 11:10 a.m.
