Minutes

Call to Order
Chairman Bill Byers called the meeting to order at 10:10 a.m.

Treasures Report
Treasurer Robert Nail reported that Willie Mae McCormick donated a check for$2,500 to go
towards moving the barn she donated. The new balance is $6,294.88.
Approval of Minutes
Iva Nail motioned for the minutes to be approved. Weldon Cannon seconded the motion.
Motion passed.
Old Business
1. The following was discussed regarding the relocation of the barn donated by Mrs.
McCormick:
a. Robert Nail suggested that a proposal regarding the placement of the barn be drawn up
for presentation to council.
b. Councilman Charlie Miller was asked what the committee needed to do with regards to
the relocation of the barn. Councilman Miller suggested that the committee provide a
projection of the cost to move the barn as well as the work needed for the project.
c. Chair, Bill Byers will draw up a proposal according to Councilman Miller's suggestion.
d. Mr. Byers will take measurements of the barn and the possible site for the barn's
placement.
e. Mr. Byers asked Mrs. McCormick whether she would be able to record a narrative of the
history of the barn. Mrs. McCormick agreed that she would.
2. Iva Nail reported that she spoke with Shirley Melson and Ms. Melson agreed to donate the
tomato planter. It was mentioned that Harvey Little volunteered to relocate the tomato
planter to Heritage Park.
3. It was mentioned that Weldon Cannon has a mid 1940 farm-all tractor that was used at the
nursery. The committee is interested in acquiring the tractor to go in the barn.
4. Michele Burger inquired about the city's Tax I.D. number so that it could be used for
purchases made for the museum. Suzanne Hendrickson will provide the committee with Tax
I.D. forms.
New Business
1. Bill Byers extended a warm welcome to Councilman Charlie Miller.
2. Councilman Miller complimented the City of Euless staff as well as the Historical
Preservation Committee for putting together an impressive Heritage Park celebration.
3. Bill Byers asked committee members for suggestions and comments regarding Heritage Park
Christmas.
a. Helen Payton suggested that the dining table at Fuller House be set with old dishes and
have it as a display during next year's Heritage Park Christmas celebration.
4. Michele Burger expressed her appreciation to the City staff for doing a great job in meeting
the needs of the committee.
5. Committee members thanked Evelyn Himes and Jean Whitener for taking down and putting
away the Christmas decorations.
6. Dan Clark reported on the "wish list" subcommittee's meeting from January 4, 2004. The
following were discussed:
a. Reviewed the updated"wish list".
b. Proposed that a committee be set up to review and determine what donations the
committee should accept. In addition,this committee-would also-be_responsihle for
setting rules and guidelines regarding acceptance and handling of donated items.
c. Also proposed that another committee be set up to determine what artifacts should be
displayed at any given time and what artifacts should be stored for later use.
d. Mr. Clark inquired about the possibility of advertising the"wish list"in the Euless Today
magazine and water bill inserts. Suzanne Hendrickson agreed that this can be done.
e. Betty Fuller requested that a candle mold be added to the"wish list" for the Himes Log
House.
f One item on the "wish list"is a coffee grinder. Betty Fuller has a coffee grinder that
came from Homer Fuller's house that she would be glad to loan for display in the
museum.
g. Another item on the"wish list" is a quilting frame. It was mentioned that Andy Chesney
has one that he has promised to donate to the museum. Helen Payton suggested that the
quilters may be interested in starting a quilt on the frame for display.
7. With regards to the subcommittee's request for an Acquisition Committee:
a. Mr. Byers would like the "wish list"committee to combine with the Acquisition
Committee.
b. Betty Fuller requested to be on the Acquisition Committee and Mr. Byers confirmed that
she is a member.
c. The Acquisition Committee is to be in charge of keeping track of loaned or donated
items.
d. A discussion was held regarding the possibility of selling donated items not useable by
the museum. An inquiry was made whether there would be liabilities regarding the
selling of such items. Suzanne Hendrickson mentioned that she would need to consult
the Purchasing Department regarding this. Betty Fuller suggested that no item should be
sold unless it is offered back to the donor first. Committee members agreed.
e. Dan Clark stated that the Acquisition Committee will meet to set up various rules and
guidelines regarding donated items. Proposals will then be presented to the entire
committee at its regular meetings.
8. With regards to the subcommittee's request for a Display Committee:
a. Bill Byers assigned the following people to the Display Subcommittee:

• Michele Burger
• Iva Nail
• Dan Clark
• Helen Payton
• Nell Hicks
• Evelyn Himes
• Thomas Stover
• Chris Jones
b. Iva Nail suggested that someone with more expertise be enlisted to help the
subcommittee with the displays.
9. Michele Burger bought a 1937 Webster's Dictionary for the museum.
10. Weldon Cannon mentioned that around 1950-1951, he did an interview with WBAP.
Michele Burger offered to do some research to see if she could possibly locate a tape of this
interview.
11. Michele Burger inquired whether the Fuller House has an answering machine set up. It was
determined that there was one. Mrs. Burger suggested that a message be recorded on the
answering machine. After a brief discussion, committee members agreed that a personalized
message would be good, however, it should be kept short and with only pertinent information
recorded.
12. Mrs. Nail mentioned to Councilman Charlie Miller that a staff member is needed at the
museum three to four hours a day. Councilman Miller suggested that this idea should be
directed to the Parks &Recreation department to see if this can be requested in next years
budget.
13. Iva Nail reported that Helen Lightbody is no longer at Parkwood Nursing Home but is at
home recovering.
14. Betty Fuller reported that Vada Johnson has moved to Parkwood Nursing Home.
15. Jean Whitener mentioned that the Log House needs cleaning. Michele Burger will check
into it.
16. Docents for February will be Michele and Dan Burger.
Adjournment
Helen Payton motioned for the meeting to adjourn. Evelyn Himes seconded the motion. Chair,
Bill Byers adjourned the meeting at 11:43 a.m.
