Minutes
March 14,2004
Call to Order
City staff Suzanne Hendrickson called the meeting to order at 10:13 a.m. Ms. Hendrickson
informed the committee that Council has appointed a new chairperson and Betty Fuller was
introduced.
Members Present

Treasurer,Robert Nail, reported a balance of$10,934.14.
Approval of Minutes
Weldon Cannon motioned for the minutes to be approved, Michele Burger seconded the motion,
motion approved. Mrs. McCormick later noted that the word "loosing" under New Business,
item number 18 should be spelled"l-o-s-i-n-g".
Old Business
1. Willie Mae McCormick briefly mentioned that clean up is ongoing on the barn and that
perhaps if the barn were ready to be moved to Heritage Park she would like to see it
happen.
2. Robert Nail and Craig Ward were docents this past Saturday. There were two visitors to
the Museum.
3. A new door knob was requested for the Fuller House restroom as the current lock does
not lock properly.
4. Mrs. Fuller inquired if the City would be able to do a cover sheet for the display case
located in the Fuller House. Suzanne Hendrickson agreed that this could be done. After
a brief discussion about what the cover sheet should say it was decided that it would say
"Euless History".
5. Mrs. Fuller brought in Irish Spring soap and mothballs for treating the mice problem in
the Log House. It was reported that soap and mothballs have been placed inside the Log
House and Meyers Pest Control has treated the building for this problem.
New Business
1. Betty Fuller reported on the following:
a. Helen Payton recently had knee surgery, Dan Clark is in Iceland and Don Tharp
couldn't make it to the meeting.
b. Betty Fuller has narratives from when she taught school on how to make wax,
sausage, cotton, etc. Narratives were given to Mary Faiva-Siale to type up.
Pictures to go with these narratives were given to Suzanne Hendrickson so that
they may be combined and made into a small brochure to be kept at the Fuller
House.
c. Betty Fuller reported that Billy Byers has completed the narrative of the house on
Ector Dr. and the house where his mother was born.
d. Mentioned that Council asked for possible committee member names. If anyone
in the committee knows of anyone who would be interested in joining the
committee,please forward his or her name to Mrs. Fuller.
e. Reported that the writer of the book called Cross Timbers will be receiving the
Jerry Award tomorrow from the Tarrant County Historical Committee at 10 a.m.
Committee members were invited to attend if they would like. Mrs. Fuller and
Weldon Cannon were in agreement that this book is very well written with
extensive research having been conducted on the book's content. Cross Timbers
is a geographical"strip" of land which includes a part of Euless.
2. Copies of the purpose of the Historical Preservation Committee was passed out and read
out loud for everyone's benefit. A discussion was held regarding various other options
on meeting times including the afternoon and/or evening. It was mentioned that perhaps
meeting at other times may help generate new committee members. The majority of the
committee members present agreed that the regular meeting time should remain as is, on
the second Monday of every month at 10 a.m.
a. In order to resolve the issue of obtaining new and younger members for the
committee, Weldon Cannon suggested that various historical classes, scheduled
through Suzanne Hendrickson, could be held to promote the history of Euless and
the Historical Preservation Committee. Committee members were in agreement
regarding Mr. Cannon's suggestion. Committee members briefly discussed
possible topics and speakers for these classes. Robert Nail motioned for the
committee to prepare a set of courses and speakers and have Suzanne
Hendrickson schedule and advertise said classes. Weldon Cannon seconded the
motion,motion approved.
3. Suzanne Hendrickson reported on the following:
a. Announced the acts for Arbor Daze
b. Reported that construction will start in a couple of weeks on the Preserve at
McCormick Park
c. Construction of the Splash Pad is coming along very well and should be done by
the end of the month
d. The Easter Egg Hunt will be this Saturday at 10 a.m.
4. A discussion was held regarding the location of the Dobkin's Cemetery. It was also
mentioned that the first burial at the cemetery was in 1869. Mrs. Fuller mentioned that
she and Mayor Mary Lib Saleh will be going out to the site on the morrow if anyone in
the committee would like to join them. Weldon Cannon gave directions to the cemetery.
5. Chair, Betty Fuller opened the floor for comments from each committee member:
a. Troy Fuller mentioned that things are going good as it is. He is glad the
committee no longer does any labor intense activities, i.e. Arbor Daze booth as in
years past. Mr. Fuller expressed a preference for the current meeting times.
b. Michele Burger likes the day meetings and things are going good with the
committee.
c. Iva Nail is glad things are moving along as they have been and she wants
everything"just to keep going".
d. Willie Mae McCormick can not meet anytime in the evening however, she
mentioned that she is only one person and she would be supportive of anything
that is good for the committee.
e. Helen Lightbody mentioned that she enjoys being a member of the committee and
the group as well. She expressed a preference for the current meeting time as
well.
f. Thomas Stover likes everything the way it is and enjoys being a member of the
committee.
g. Chris Jones feels the committee is heading in the right direction, he is supportive
of the idea to promote the museum and the committee through the afore
mentioned classes. Mr. Jones also expressed his support for keeping the
committee meeting at the current date and time.
h. Weldon Cannon expressed great excitement over the narrative for the historical
marker for the First United Methodist Church in Euless. Mr. Cannon mentioned
that he is not quite ready to "sign off' on the draft yet, but that this is a major step
in the process of obtaining the marker. He also recognized Norma Lively's
efforts on behalf of this endeavor.
i. Norma Lively expressed her excitement about the marker as well and her
appreciation of what the committee does for the history of Euless.
6. Troy Fuller and Thomas Stover volunteered to docent in April. Michele and Dan Burger
volunteered for May.
7. Committee members discussed the best possible time to post the Museum's open house
signs.
8. It was further discussed that perhaps could e time.laCommitteffeeinemberlocations agreed that
the city rather than in the same
this would be a good idea. Mr. Nail commented that members should be careful to
remember where they've placed the signs so that they could be picked up again at the end
of the day.
9. Iva Nail suggested that the committee consider some way of recognizing and/or honoring
Billy Byers for his years of dedication to the Historical Preservation Committee. The
committee agreed that this would be a good idea and will discuss this further in the
future.
Adjournment
Robert Nail motioned for the meeting to adjourn. Troy Fuller seconded the motion. Motion
approved and the meeting adjourned at 11:48 a.m.
