A HISTORY MOMENT OF MEDITATION
For the City of Euless Historical Preservation Committee, March 13, 2006
The President of the Disciples of Christ Historical Society, Nashville, Tennessee, tells about an
exchange with a recent visitor to the Society. In describing the work of the Society, the
President said, "It's not about the past; it's about the future." The visitor said, "Aren't you in
the history business'" expressing the belief of many people that historical societies care only
about saving a few materials of history for the sake of preservation alone. "We believe that the
past and the future are intimately connected," the President said. "We love our heritage, but we
also care deeply about the generations still to come." It is, indeed, all about the future.
In Euless we have a glorious past; we have an even more glorious future.
