Minutes
May 8, 2006
Call to Order
Chair, Betty Fuller called the meeting to order at 10:04 a.m.
Members Present
Betty Fuller, Bill Byers, Dan Clark, Chris Jones, Boyce Byers, Nell Hicks, Ralph Williamson,
David Massey, Weldon Cannon, Robert Nail, Glenn Walker, Troy Fuller, Helen Lightbody, Tom
Stover.

Approval of Minutes
The following corrections were made to April's minutes:
a. Under Old Business item #12, Mike Miller with Republic Tire installed two new
tires on the tractor and would not accept payment for the work done.
b. Under Old Business item#16 it should say; Mr. Byers described the process and the
material he is using to correct the damages done to Richard Calloway's grave
instead of Bernie Fuller's grave.
c. Under New Business item #5, Betty Fuller did not volunteer to docent during the
Donna Park Elementary tour on April 20.
Robert Nail made a motion for the minutes to be approved with the corrections. Chris Jones
seconded the motion, motion approved.
Treasurer's Report
Treasurer, Robert Nail, reported a balance of$9,047.10.
Old Business
1. Member report;
a. It was reported that Tom Stover has had extreme back problems recently.
b. Helen Payton could not attend the meeting due to knee surgery.

2. A reminder was given on Robert Nail's "History of the Post Office"presentation. This will
be on June 1 at 6:30 p.m. at City Hall.
3. Bill Byers will be receiving a proclamation from the Tarrant County Commissioner's Court
tomorrow Tuesday, May 9 at 10 a.m. The proclamation recognizes Mr. Byers as the
recipient of one of two $500 grants for restoration of Richard Calloway's grave. Richard
Calloway was the first person buried at Calloway Cemetery. Pictures were passed around
for the Committee's viewing.
4. Wilshire Elementary will be touring Heritage Park on Thursday, May 11 at noon. Iva and
Robert Nail, Bill and Boyce Byers, David Massey and four City staff members will work
the tour.
5. Billy and Boyce Byers and Mrs. Fuller met with Joe Hennig to discuss obtaining a space in
the Library for storage of Euless Historical archives, documents, etc. Mr. Cannon provided
a brochure of the Irving Library's archive collection for the Committee's viewing.
6. Mrs. Fuller and Weldon Cannon worked all day last Tuesday on Jean Whitener's photo
collection. The collection requires a lot of restorative work due to years of storage. All
the negatives still need to be gone through. Weldon Cannon received a call from Evelyn
Himes saying she found more items in Jean Whitener's things.
7. Mrs. Fuller thanked Boyce Byers and Helen Payton for agreeing to work on restoring
Willie Mae McCormick's scrapbooks.
8. Helen Payton has agreed to act as the Committee's Corresponding Secretary. Committee
members were asked to inform Mrs. Payton when situations arises requiring attention from
the Committee. Mrs. Payton will send out thank you notes, get well cards, etc. on behalf of
the Committee. Ofa "Mary" sent a"thank-you" card to Republic Tire for the labor and two
tractor tires they donated last month.
9. Robert Nail received a phone call from Mrs. Willie Mae McCormick thanking the
Committee for the picture/plaque she received. Mrs. McCormick wanted to send a thank
you note but didn't feel up to it so she decided to call instead.
10. Dan Clark reminded the Committee to complete donation forms for all donations to the
Museum. Weldon Cannon has turned in a form on the tractor.
11. It was discussed at last months meeting that an "Emergency-Contact" sub-committee could
be established in order to help the Chairman when an emergency arises and the Committee
needs to be contacted quickly. After a brief discussion it was agreed that Suzanne
Hendrickson will design a call sheet for the Committee to use.
12. The Fuller House's availability for rental by the public was discussed. Bill Byers made a
motion for the Museum to be removed from the City's list of rentable facilities. Glenn
Walker seconded the motion. All members were in favor, motion approved.

13. Mrs. Fuller reported that she and David Massey have proofed the draft of Margie Massey's
oral history interview. The draft has been returned to Ofa"Mary" for a final draft.
14. Mrs. Fuller informed the Committee that many items at Heritage Park do not have donor
information on them. Suzanne Hendrickson turned over a list of these items to Mrs. Fuller.
Mrs. Nail reviewed the list and did not recall any information on the items. Mr. Byers is
currently reviewing the list.
15. Norma Lively encouraged the Committee to attend the Texas Historical Marker dedication
of the First United Methodist Church of Euless marker on Sunday, May 21 at 2:30 p.m. in
front of the church.
New Business
1. Marie Talbott with the Mid-Cities Genealogical Society is interested in volunteering with
the Euless Historical Committee. It was discussed that she could transcribe oral history
recordings of Florine "Tookie"Huffman Lees, Warren Fuller and Jennie Payton. Plans to
obtain oral histories from Bill Byers, Troy Fuller, Nell and Marvin Hicks, Evelyn Himes,
Willie Mae McCormick, Iva and Robert Nail and Jimmy Payton are in order. As the
project is a sizable one, Ms. Talbott could help in this area. The Committee agreed that this
would be a good idea. It was further discussed that a plot map of Calloway Cemetery
could be developed as well as a website. Ms. Talbott said she would take these ideas back
to their board.
2. Mrs. Fuller asked for the Committee's opinion on having a display table with Euless
Historical Preservation Committee information at the Texas State Genealogical Society's
46th Annual Conference. It would involve spending $20 per table and someone to work the
table during the Conference. Handouts, brochures and information about Euless' historical
program could be handed out during the event. The conference will be held at Southwest
Baptist Theological Seminary in October. Weldon Cannon made a motion for the
Committee to spend $20 per table of the Committee's funds and to attend the conference.
Iva Nail seconded the motion. All were in favor, motion approved.
3. Mrs. Fuller and Willie Mae McCormick's daughter, Elizabeth, will meet in the near future
to label and display Mrs. McCormick's artifacts at the Library. Space will be made
available in the display cabinets for Mrs. McCormick's items.
4. Bill Byers is going to ask Kate Lyon to put a display case near the front of the Library.
5. Weldon Cannon, Boyce Byers, David Massey and Chris Jones volunteered to docent on
Saturday, June 10.
6. Mrs. Fuller reminded the members that June 12 will be the final meeting before the
Committee's summer break.
7. Jean& Leon Whitener, executors of John Whitener's estate, reported that they found a lot
of items of historical significance that the Historical Committee may be interested in.

8. Weldon Cannon indicated that there may be a need to purchase archival materials for
saving and preserving historical items.
9. Weldon Cannon passed around a Mrs. Owen's Cookbook for the Committee's viewing. It
included a brief history of Dr. Boyd, the original trustee of Calloway Cemetery.
10. Chris Jones donated a 1956 Fort Worth map to the Museum.
11. Suzanne Hendrickson reported on the following:
a. Introduced Ana Ahovelo to the Committee. Ana will be working on the Museum
inventory, help as a docent on Saturdays,put out signs at the end of the day on
Fridays before open house, clean house, etc.
b. Currently working on real estate signs for the Historical Committee.
c. Will have a staff member work the display table at the Mid-Cities Genealogical
Society's Conference.
d. Logo—still being worked on.
e. Stationary—still being worked on.
f. Brochure—still being worked on.
g. Local Marker Program—still being worked on.
h. Fig and Magnolia tree plaques are on order.
Adjournment
Chair, Betty Fuller adjourned the meeting at 11: 50 a.m.
