Old Business
1. Docent report from June 10:
a. Chris Jones reported that two wasp nests were found in or around the Himes
Log House. The Parks Department was notified and they've had it taken care
of.
b. Weldon Cannon explained that a family who are descendents of Andrew
Jackson Himes visited the Museum. It was mentioned the family lives in the
area. Copies of family photos including Mr. Himes were passed around for the
Committee's viewing.
2. Bill Byers reported on the following:
a. In regards to Calloway Cemetery: Mr. Byers stated that the land was donated by
two brothers, Richard and Joseph Calloway, around 1884 or so. Richard
Calloway was the first person buried on the site and over the years, his
gravestone suffered considerable erosion and damage which required extensive
repair work. Mr. Byers reminded everyone that in 2005, Sally McCutcheon, a
granddaughter of Dr. Rhodes who was a prominent physician in the area in the
1900's, donated $500 to the Calloway Cemetery. Recently, an opportunity
arose for Mr. Byers to apply for a matching grant donation from the Tarrant
County Historical Commission. Mr. Byers applied and was granted an
additional $500 which he used to restore Richard Calloway's gravestone.
b. The Tarrant County Sheriff's Department has a program that works primarily
with churches and cemeteries. The program offers help to those working in the
community service field. In the past, Mr. Byers mowed and maintained the
Calloway Cemetery grounds himself. Mr. Byers recently met with
representatives of the program and they have volunteered to take over the
mowing and maintenance of the Calloway Cemetery grounds.
c. Mr. Byers will get with Mr. Little to begin working on the McCormick Barn
display. David Massey and Robert Nail volunteered to help Mr. Byers and Mr.
Little. Chris Jones will also help depending on his schedule.
d. Reported a donation of an old ten-pound tin milk crate with Tennessee Dairy
stamped on it.
e. Asked those present to keep an eye out for"big old round milk bottles"with the
cardboard stoppers. Mr. Byers reminded everyone that the Committee would
reimburse anyone who made a reasonable purchase of items for the Museum.
f. Spoke with "Tootles" Brown regarding the interview with George Brown. Ms.
Brown suggested that it would be best if someone went to Stephenville to do the
interview. Mr. Byers, Troy Fuller, Boyce Byers and Betty Fuller will schedule
a time to-go to Stephenville and obtain an oral history accounting from Mr.
Brown.

presentation on the "History of the Euless Post Office". All items will be
returned to Mr. Nail as soon as possible.
d. A copy of the Fuller House foundation repair quote was handed out to the
Committee. It was noted that Olshan, the foundation repair company,
recommended that gutters be placed on the south and west side of the house. A
brief discussion followed regarding cost, requirements, etc. Dan Clark made a
motion that the City be allowed to do whatever it feels necessary regarding the
repairing of the Fuller House. Mr. Clark's motion was further revised to include
for a structural engineer to review the proposal for a second opinion. David
Massey seconded the motion. All members were in favor, motion approved.

of all artifacts in the house and entered into the Museum's inventory.

5. Mr. Cannon reminded the Committee to go by and see the new Texas Historical Marker at
the First United Methodist Church.
6. Mrs. Nail reported that in the past, Joe Hennig had indicated his agreement that it would be
doable for the Committee to have a room set aside for historical purposes at the Library. It
was further mentioned that the Committee should follow-up on this notion. Along the
same line, it was further mentioned that the Cities of Grapevine and Irving have such a
section in their libraries; however, both cities have two rooms set aside for this purpose.
After a brief discussion, the Committee agreed that it would be good to have two rooms set
aside for the preservation of the history of the area. One room could be set up as an archive
room and a second room could be used for genealogy, study area, etc.
7. Iva Nail extended a warm welcome to all potential committee members at the meeting.

New Business
1. This month's meeting (June 12) was held at Jimmy and Helen Payton's home due to the air
conditioner being out at Fuller House. The Committee thanked Mr. and Mrs. Payton for
allowing the meeting to be held at their residence on such short notice. A work order was
turned in to the Fleet and Facilities Department and the AC has been fixed.
2. It was suggested that a new meeting location for the Historical Committee should be
considered. Various City facilities were discussed. Suzanne Hendrickson was asked to
look into the availability of these facilities for the Committee's monthly meetings.
3. Mrs. Fuller thanked Robert Nail for his wonderful presentation on the "History of the
Euless Post Office". Mr. Nail briefly talked about some humorous situations from when he
was Postmaster of Euless. He talked about some unfortunate incidences with Mr. Jacoby
(retired Postman in Euless). Apparently, Mr. Jacoby was sprayed by a skunk on one
occasion and was attacked by a rooster on another occasion. One notable incident in Mr.
Jacoby's career was that he became the first Postman in Euless to be bit a dog. As it turned
out, the dog that bit Mr. Jacoby belonged to none other than the Postmaster himself, Robert
Nail.
4. Nomla Lively reported that the First United Methodist Church of Euless has records dating
as far back as the 1870's. Many of the records are in fragile condition and need to be gone
through in order to salvage the material. She mentioned that photocopies and microfilm
will be made of the records and a set may be given to the Library. Mr. Cannon was very
pleased to hear Mrs. Lively's report. He suggested several locations where the originals
could be given for storage.
5. The following people volunteered to docent on the following dates:
a. Bill and Boyce Byers and Robert and Iva Nail volunteered to docent on July 8.
b. Troy Fuller volunteered to docent on August 12. Betty Fuller may be able to help
on that day.
c. Chris Jones and Helen Payton volunteered to docent on September 9.
6. Nell Hicks informed the Committee that she will be moving to Paradise, Texas, sometime
in August where she will be living next door to her daugjhter. She expressed her sadness at
leaving the area and Committee members expressed their regret as well. The Committee
wished Mrs. Hicks good luck with her move.
7. Weldon Cannon completed his historical marker application for the Euless Nursery. The
Euless Nursery belonged to his grandfather and then his father from 1897 until 1960. This
was an essential part in the development of the City of Euless. Copies of the application
were available for the Committee.
8. Mr. Cannon also completed an outline of topics for a historical narrative on the Euless
School (currently South Euless Elementary School). The historical narrative is an essential
part of the application process for a Texas Historical Marker. Copies of the outline were
also available for Committee.
EHPC Mtg. 061206
9. Glenn Walker reported that he recently spoke with several people in the City about the idea
of having a"City Reunion" type of event. He described another city who holds this
particular event and its successes. Those in the City that Mr. Walker spoke with were
receptive to the idea. Since the City is no longer holding Arbor Daze, perhaps this may be
an event that could be looked into.
10. Troy Fuller reported that he recently visited the City's website and was very impressed
with the information available on the website. Mr. Fuller was especially impressed and
complimentary of the "Compost-ology" web page.
11. The Committee was reminded that the next historical meeting will be September 11.
