Minutes
March 10, 2008
CALL TO ORDER
Chair, Betty Fuller, called the meeting to order at 10:07 a.m. The meeting was held at City Hall in
the Pre-Council Chamber at 201 North Ector Drive, Euless, Texas.

Weldon Cannon, Doris Brown, David Brown, Shirley Mercer, Sue Stover, Tom Stover, Troy
Fuller, David Massey, Veva Lou Massey, James Gathings, Helen Gleghorn, Joe Cannon, Beth
Gathings, Dan Clark, Ralph Williamson, Gary Fieldsend, Donna Mickan, Betty Fuller and Norma
Lively.

APPROVAL OF MINUTES
James Gathings made a motion for the minutes to be approved. Troy Fuller seconded the motion,
motion approved. It was later noted that Norma Lively was present at February's meeting.
TREASURER'S REPORTS
Chair, Betty Fuller, reported on behalf of the Treasurer, Robert Nail, that the Committee currently
has a balance of$7,385.84. Twenty one dollars was collected last month for the Trigg tile. The
total collected so far for the Trigg tile is $74.00.
DOCENT'S REPORT/RECRUITMENT
1. Donna Mickan reported a total of thirty seven visitors at open house on March 8, 2008.
Donna Mickan, Betty Fuller, Gary Fieldsend and David Brown were docents that day.
2 David Massey, Donna Mickan and Betty Fuller volunteered to docent on March 13, 2008
for the senior group from Tarrant County College. The tour will begin at 10 a.m.

3. David Brown, Joe Cannon, Donna Mickan and Gary Fieldsend volunteered to docent
during regular open house on April 12, 2008.
4. A Cub Scout group contacted the City to schedule a tour around mid-April. Mrs. Fuller
will contact the group to confirm the date and time.
STATUS OF CURRENT PROJECTS
Library History Wall: Betty Fuller informed the Committee of the "Meet the Artist"
reception the City is holding for the artist who designs the tiles for the history wall. The
reception will be on April 5, 2008 at 6:30 p.m. and the location of the reception has not
been determined. Council Member Linda Martin indicated that the location will be posted
on the City website when it is decided. The Committee was encouraged to stop by the
reception and meet the artist. Members were also informed that no solicitation will be done
at the reception for tile purchases.
2. Volunteer Recruitment: Donna Mickan spoke with Jamie Pringle, drama teacher at Trinity
High School, about her students volunteering for the Committee. It was indicated that
students were either all ready done with their community service hours or couldn't do it at
this time. Mrs. Mickan will contact the teacher again in September.
3. Calloway Cemetery:
• Bill Byers and Mr. Massey spoke about establishing a card file of contact information
for the descendents of those buried at Calloway Cemetery. Mr. Massey agreed to put
together and maintain a file for the project. Some of the members, who have
descendents buried at Calloway Cemetery, were given cards to note the requested
contact information on. The cards are to be given to Mr. Massey to maintain.
• The Survey Sub-Committee will begin organizing the census' that were previously
collected. They will meet on April 15, at 10 a.m. at the Parks and Community Services
building at 1314 Royal Parkway, Euless. Bill Byers, Iva Nail, Helen Payton, Beth and
James Gathings, Weldon Cannon and Mrs. Fuller were those who volunteered to work
on the project.
4. Oral History Project/Website Update: Dan Clark displayed the oral history recordings
posted on the website for the Committee's viewing.
5. Library Display:
• Mr. Clark will change the photo display at the Library on the first of each month. Mr.
Clark will lobby for a better display area in the Library. Mr. Clark asked for additional
information about Arch and Della Cannon, their photograph is the next one to be
displayed at the Library.
• Mr. Clark photographed the display cases at the Library. The Committee was informed
that items are needed for the display cases.

• Additionally, Mr. Clark photographed the historical photo display at the Irving Library.
Large sized photographs are mounted and displayed along a highly visible area in the
Library. He indicated to the Committee that it would be nice to have a similar display.
Various Committee members were agreeable to Mr. Clark's opinion.
6. Photography Project: This is an on-going project; Mr. Clark, Mr. Fieldsend and Mr. Martin
continue to take photographs of various historical locations in the area.
7. Photo Scanning Project: Two staff members have been trained to scan the Museum's
photos.
8. Photo Album Project: The sub-committee agreed to meet at Mrs. Fuller's home on
Tuesday, March 25 at 10 a.m. to begin working on the project. Doris Brown, Donna
Mickan, Helen Payton, Betty Fuller and Sue Stover were those who volunteered to work on
the project. Helen Gleghorn will also help with the project.
9. Arbor Daze Booth: David Brown gave a slide show presentation of his plans for the booth.
He plans to have trivia games, prizes, displays of various historical photographs, etc. It was
mentioned that inexpensive prizes can be purchased at Rebecca's for the booth. Cost of
prizes was discussed. Dan Clark made a motion for the Committee to provide funds for
Nir. Brown to purchase prizes for the booth, up to $500. Ralph Williamson seconded the
motion. There was no opposition, motion approved. Volunteers to work the booth will be
recruited at April's meeting. David Brown and Dan Clark are on the sub-committee and
Bill Byers, Weldon Cannon and Betty Fuller are ex-officio members.

CHAIRMAN'S REPORT
1. A card for Evelyn Himes was passed around for the Committee to sign.
2. Don Martin is still out due to illness.
3. The April meeting is scheduled to be at the Fuller house. It was indicated that the
Committee has gotten too large to meet at the Fuller House. Troy Fuller made a motion for
the Committee to meet in the Pre-Council Chamber in April. David Massey seconded the
motion. There was no opposition, motion approved.
4. Mrs. Fuller thanked Norma Lively for framing a hand drawn picture of Hattie and Lewis
Cribbs. The picture also has handwritten notes by Hattie Cribbs. The frame will be placed
at the Museum.
�. There is a possibility a new member will join the Committee. Her name is Mavy Nell
Trigg Wright. She is a descendant of Elisha Adam Euless.

CONLMITTEE REPORTS
1. The Committee expressed their gratitude by applause to Dan Clark and David Brown for
their fantastic presentations and for all the work they do for the Committee.
2. Weldon Cannon recently attended a Texas State Historical Commission meeting.
3. Mr. Cannon is still working on the marker application for The Euless School, currently
known as South Euless Elementary School.
4. Mr. Stover informed everyone that it was Mayor Pro Tern Leon Hogg's birthday.
Everyone sang "Happy Birthday" and wished Mr. Hogg a great birthday.
5. Mr. Massey asked if an estimate could be provided by staff on the cost to build a working
well underneath one of the windmills at Heritage Park. Staff indicated that the idea is
continually being reviewed as there are several factors to consider including some liability
concerns. Along the same line, staff further reported that the new windmill has several
safety issues that must be worked on in the near future.
6. Ralph Williamson inquired if there were any reports regarding the Lakewood Elementary
School tour. Mrs. Fuller apologized for forgetting about the tours. She thanked everyone
who served as docents during all the recent school tours.
7. Beth and James Gathings are going to the Texas State birthday party at the Brazos.
VISITORS REPORT
1. Linda Martin thanked the Committee for everything they do.
STAFF REPORT
1. The new intern who was going through the hiring process did not work out. Staff will
continue seeking someone that can take this position.
2. Staff was involved in other projects the last two weeks and will begin the scanning process
next week.
ADJOURNMENT
David Massey made a motion for the meeting to adjourn. Donna Mickan seconded the motion.
Motion approved.
The meeting adjourned at 11:37 a.m.
