Minutes
December 8, 2008
CALL TO ORDER
Chair, Betty Fuller, called the meeting to order at 10:15 a.m. The meeting was held at Mr. and Mrs.
Payton's home at 302 Oak Drive, Euless, Texas.

APPROVAL OF MINUTES
Joe Cannon made a correction under Committee Reports, item #7. It was Mr. Cannon's Great-great-
grandfather he spoke about and not his Great-grandfather. Troy Fuller made a motion for the minutes
to be approved with the correction. Helen Lightbody seconded the motion, motion approved.
TREASURER'S REPORTS
There was not a treasurer's report.

VISITOR'S REPORT
1. Mrs. Fuller reported that Susan Ellis could not attend the meeting.
2. Doyle Brown, Bill Golden and Helen Voss introduced themselves to the Committee.
DOCENT'S REPORT/RECRUITMENT
1. Docents for the North Euless School tour on December 11, 2008 are David Brown, Tom and
Sue Stover and Betty Fuller.
2. Docents for open house on January 10, 2009 are Gary Fieldsend, Ralph Williamson and Betty
Fuller.
3. The following are changes to the schedule previously arranged in the November meeting for
Heritage Park Christmas on December 13, 2008:
• Dan and Michele Burger volunteered to work the McCormick Barn and Outbuildings from
1-2 p.m.
• Troy Fuller will help Robert Nail inside the Fuller House from 2-3 p.m.
• David Brown will work the McCormick Barn and Outbuildings from 2-3 p.m.
• Mr. and Mrs. Stover offered to work the elementary school tour on December 11, 2008
instead of the Christmas event due to a last minute change in their schedule.
• Gary Fieldsend, Trish McDonald and Dan Clark will work the photo exhibit inside the
Ruth Millican Center.
STATUS OF CURRENT PROJECTS
1. Calloway Cemetery:
• David Massey encouraged the Committee to come up with more names for the cemetery
mailing list. He will make copies of the current list and bring it in to the next meeting for
everyone to review.
• Bill Golden volunteered to be a member of the Calloway Cemetery Committee.
• David Massey brought up the fact that the tabernacle at Calloway Cemetery needs
restoration work due to its deteriorated condition. Various Committee members agreed
that restoration work is needed for the tabernacle.
• Weldon Cannon indicated that the tabernacle was built in 1908 and is more than likely the
oldest tabernacle in the area. He added that old documents and newspaper articles refer to
the cemetery as "the old Euless burial ground" and that this is "our historic cemetery."
• Mr. Massey announced that Jimmy Payton will be speaking to City Council on Tuesday,
December 9, 2008 at 7 p.m. Mr. Payton and the Calloway Cemetery Committee want to
thank City officials and staff for their support of the project. He added that ancestors of
five previous Euless Mayors are buried at the cemetery and it is an important part of the
City's history. The Calloway Cemetery Committee would also like to recognize the
Historical Preservation Committee for their steadfast support which has allowed the
founation of the Committee. Members of the Historical Committee were encouraged to
show their support by attending the Council meeting.
• Mrs. Fuller reminded the Committee that the Parks Department maintains the cemetery
grounds and it looks great due to their diligence.

• Mrs. Fuller previously read an article in an old Arlington newspaper about Mood Fuller's
funeral. It was reported that Mr. Fuller's funeral procession was the largest ever seen in
the area.
2. Oral History Project:
• Dan Clark reported that Bill Byers agreed to do an interview for the project.
• Collaboration with staff on video recording the interviews is in the process.
• Warren Fuller's interview has not been posted on the website.
3. Website Update:
• Dan Clark spoke with Adam Eakins regarding updates to the website. Staff is currently
working with Mr. Eakins on the updates and a preliminary page is in the designing stage.
4. Library Display
• The display for December is of the Euless Lumber Company.
• January's display will be a photo of a house that was in the files kept at the Parks and
Community Services building. Mr. Clark asked for the Committee's help in identifying
the photo. Joe Cannon and Helen Gleghorn recognized the house as belonging to William
(Bill) Fuller. Mrs. Gleghorn recalled a story about when she was a little girl. She was
playing under this same house when she was called to come out, that she had a new baby
brother.
5. Donations:
• The Committee inquired about a description plaque for the Blackie Sustaire desk. Staff
indicated that a plaque can be made with whatever description the Committee would like.
Information about Blackie Sustaire is in the City of Euless 50`h Anniversary
Commemorative Book.
6. Historical "Snippets": Mrs. Fuller placed Co-chair, Sue Stover, over the project. Various
tidbits of history will be shared by various Committee members at each meeting.
7. Player Piano: Troy Fuller is currently working with a company to fix the player piano. He
estimates that it will be worked on sometime in January, 2009. Mr. Fuller also purchased
seven music rolls for the piano. They are under the stool.

STAFF REPORT
1. The corn grinder base has been fixed. Staff will provide corn cobs and kernels for
demonstrations during Heritage Park Christmas.
2. Christmas gifts and Board and Commissions books are available for pick up at the end of the
luncheon.

3. Betty Fuller previously contacted the City Secretary, Susan Crim, to search for some missing
video tapes of a historical nature. Ms. Crim found two tapes and gave them to Mrs. Fuller,
who in turn gave them to staff to copy on to DVD's. Staff will have this done as soon as
possible.
4. Parks has placed a live Christmas tree at the Himes Log House. The tree will be decorated on
December 11, 2008 by the docents for the elementary school tour.
5. Heritage Park Christmas activities include the usual: kettle corn, ginger bread house making,
games, a petting zoo, train, "reindeer food", etc. Four local schools have signed up to sing at
the event.
CHAIRMAN'S REPORT
1. Gave a reminder about the Trigg tile donation box. Weldon Cannon was asked to provide a
brief report on the Trigg's and their importance to Euless. Mr. Cannon stated that Mary Ann
Whitson Trigg was a wealthy widow who moved to this area from Tennessee. She is generally
considered the "Mother of Euless". She owned thousands of acres of land in this area. Her
daughter Julie Ann Trigg married Elisha Adam Euless.
2. Encouraged everyone to buy a tile for the Library History Wall. Further reported that Joe
Cannon and Helen Gleghorn purchased a 12" X 12" tile of the Calloway Cemetery.
3. Asked Troy Fuller if it were possible to have the company that's coming to fix the player
piano also take a look at the pump organ to see if it can be fixed. Mr. Fuller will have this
done.
4. Displayed an HEB Board Game that was donated to the Museum.
5. Extended a warm welcome to the new 2009 Historical Committee members. Also welcomed
the Mayor, City Manager and their staff to the luncheon.
6. Thanked City officials and staff for their support since the inception of the Committee all the
way to the present.
7. Mrs. Fuller went on to thank Mr. and Mrs. Payton for allowing the Committee's annual
Christmas luncheon to be held at their home for the past several years. The Committee also
expressed their appreciation to the Payton's.
COMMITTEE REPORTS
1. Helen Voss gave an update on Mrs. Boyce Byers' current condition. The Committee and City
staff expressed their concern for Mr. and Mrs. Byers.
2. Weldon Cannon gave staff a VHS video titled 1993 "Euless School History". Diana
Crawford interviewed various key people for the tape. Staff will have the video copied into
two separate DVD's for Mr. Cannon. An additional copy will be given to Dan Clark.

3. Weldon Cannon also inquired as to the whereabouts of VHS videos he knew existed at one
time. The videos were of historical nature and were kept by the Recreation Department. Rick
Herold was the director at the time.
4. Staff previously asked Gary Fieldsend to judge the float with the best historical ties to Euless
during the 2008 Parade of Lights. Mr. Fieldsend reported that there were over one-hundred
floats and he had a great time serving as judge.
ADJOURNMENT
Helen Voss made a motion for the meeting to adjourn. Helen Lightbody seconded the motion.
Motion approved.
The meeting adjourned at 11:21 a.m.
