Minutes
February 9, 2009
CALL TO ORDER
Chair, Betty Fuller, called the meeting to order at 10:03 a.m. The meeting was held at City Hall in
the Pre-Council Chamber at 201 North Ector Drive, Euless, Texas.

APPROVAL OF MINUTES
Donna Mickan made a motion for the minutes to be approved with the corrections. Mavy Nell Wright
seconded the motion, motion approved.
TREASURER'S REPORTS
Vice-chair Sue Stover reported a total balance of$7,190.22. Included in the balance is $254.22 for the
Trigg tile.
DOCENT'S REPORT/RECRUITMENT
1. Ninety-four Bellaire Elementary School students toured Heritage Park on Thursday, February
2009. David Massey, Doyle Brown, Betty Fuller, Helen Payton and Norma Lively were
docents that day.
2. Bill Byers, Tom Stover and Sue Stover volunteered to docent during open house on Saturday,
January 14, 2009. Susan Ellis may also attend to learn how to docent.
3. Lakewood Elementary School will be touring Heritage Park on Thursday, February 19, 2009.
Beth Gathings, Donna Mickan and Bill Byers volunteered to docent. Helen Voss and Faye

Stinneford inquired about docent training. They were invited to attend any of the upcoming
tours for onsite training.
STATUS OF CURRENT PROJECTS
1. Calloway Cemetery Committee:
• Bill Byers plans to do maintenance work on the tabernacle in the near future.
• The Survey Sub-committee will meet on Wednesday, February 11, 2009 at 10 a.m. at
the Calloway cemetery to work on the census.
• David Massey reported no new update on the status of the 501-3 C application status.
2. Oral History Project:
• Dan Clark reported that Halatono Netane's interview has been completed and will be
posted on the website soon.
• Ofa Mary is waiting for a release form from the TCC instructor who interviewed her
before posting the interview online.
• Mr. Clark reported that he interviewed a gentleman from the Indian/Pakistani
community. He explained to the gentleman and the Committee the need for a person
who is an active member of the community and who can speak on behalf of the
community.
• Staff mentioned the Trinity High School student who is of Indian/Pakistani decent
who contacted the City around November expressing his interest in volunteering for
the historical Committee. Staff contacted him and he intends to forward contact
information from the"Persian Church" on Ash Lane and Harwood, all information
will be forwarded to Dan Clark.
3. City Website Update:
• Dan Clark did a display of the Historical page and discussed the new changes on the
site. He reported that all the bios of the Mayors of Euless are done except for Homer
Fuller's. J�
• It was mentioned that the City Secretary's office should be consulted to verify data for
the Mayor bios prior to posting on the website.
• Weldon Cannon researched W.G. Fuller for the Mayor bios.
• Mr. Clark indicated that Adam Eakins should receive credit for all the updates on the
website. The Committee indicted their agreement with Mr. Clark by applause.
• The Tarrant County Historical Commission wanted to link to the City's history page.
4. Historical Displays:
• A photo of the Cannon House is currently on display at the Library.
• A photograph of the first traffic lights installed in Euless will be March's display. Mr.
Clark asked for information on the photo.
• Another display Mr. Clark is working on is one of Ruth Millican. Staff was consulted
on whether a photo and a write up of Mrs. Millican can be display at the Ruth Millican
Center. Staff agreed that this would be fine. Mr. asked for the Committee's help in
gathering information for the piece. Weldon Cannon volunteered to check at the
courthouse for information the next time he is there. Norma Lively offered to check
with some of her resources.

5. Library History Wall: Mrs. Fuller reported that Pat May of the HEB-ISD purchased a tile in
honor of Vada Johnson.
6. Historical Marker Project:
• Weldon Cannon received a notice from the Texas Historical Commission informing
him that the Euless High School marker application has been approved. Since the City
is paying for the marker, information pertaining to it has been sent to the City
Secretary; Susan Crim. Mr. Cannon estimates that the whole process should be
completed around late summer or early fall. The HEB-ISD has agreed to allow
placement of the marker on the school property.
• It was reported that there are a total of six Texas Historical Markers in the City limits;
Mr. Cannon wrote applications for four of them.
• Weldon Cannon indicated his interest in writing an application for an"Effects of
Aviation on Euless" marker in the future.
• Regarding the local marker project, Michael Davenport reported the medallion part of
the marker will be about 8" in diameter and the plaque portion will be 8" X 6" in size.
Each peace will cost a little over $270.00 each.
• Weldon Cannon was asked to chair a Historical Marker Sub-Committee.
7. Artifacts Labeling Project: Mavy Nell Wright and/or the Committee will write up the desired
text for each display. Staff will have name plates made with the text provided by the
Committee. Helen Gleghom, Betty Fuller and Mavy Nell Wright will meet at the Fuller
House at 1 p.m. on February 16, 2009 to work on the photo albums and the labeling project.
8. Acquisition Committee/Donations:
• Bill Byers is chair of this Sub-committee. Mr. Byers reported that Loreen Snyder has a
lot of"stuff" she is willing to loan to the Museum. He indicted that much of the stuff
she has are in good condition and are needed for Heritage Park.
• Mrs. Fuller reiterated the need for artifacts for the display cases at the Library. She
asked for the Committee's aide in coming up with items for the display cases.

• Sue Stover has been writing Cocain you" notes v,. .,...u3.1 of
loaned and/or donated to the Museum.
• The Committee expressed an interest in obtaining a wooden ice-box for the Museum.
• Helen Gleghom displayed a quilt dated November 26, 1931. The quilt contains names
of Euless women at the time. Members of the Committee recognize most of the names
on the quilt and thought this a very valuable item. Various ideas of ways to display and
where to display the quilt was discussed. The Committee further indicated the need to
accept this donation due to its valuable historical nature. David Massey thought the
quilt should be mounted and displayed somewhere prominent. It was also thought it
could possibly be displayed during Arbor Daze pending Mrs. Gleghorn's opinion.
• New members added to Acquisition Sub-committee were Doyle Brown, Bill Golden,
Mavy Nell Wright, Donna Mickan, Susan Ellis, Helen Voss and Sue and Tom Stover.
9. Photography Committee: Members are Dan Clark and Gary Fieldsend.
10. Arbor Daze: Staff reported that a 40'X40' tent will be installed to house the Committee's
display. Staff asked if the Historical photo display could be exhibited during the event. Staff
will do all the set up but asked the Committee to man the tent during the event. Donna Mickan
made a motion to use the Photo Display during Arbor Daze and have the Committee man the

tent during the festival. Faye Stinneford seconded the motion. The Committee requested
parking passes.

VISITOR'S REPORT
STAFF REPORT
1. Staff reported the following:
• Staff was asked to prepare docent packets containing training material for the
members. Each member present was given a set, the remainder will be placed at the
Fuller House for members who were not present at the meeting.
• Reported that Parks has placed wires over the chimney and around the eaves of the
Log House. This will keep small animals, birds, etc. out of the house.
• Will have the quilt and pillows from the Log House cleaned.
• Name plates have been made up for the Blackie Sustaire desk and the photograph of
Albert Andrew and Samuel Edward Fuller and their spouses. Both have been placed at
the Fuller House.
• Shirts and name tags were given the Helen Voss, Doyle Brown, Susan Ellis, and Faye
Stinneford.
• Cleaning of the chandelier and the Log House loft are being looked into.
• Gave the Committee two copies each of three VHS tapes discussed at the December
and January meetings. One video is titled"Euless School History," one is titled "Old
Iron Bridge" and one is titled, "Weldon Green Cannon." The originals will be kept at
the PACS offices.
• Reminded the Committee of the importance of obtaining signed Donation/Loan forms
for all items being accepted for the Museum. A file is being kept at the PACS offices.
Release forms should be kept in case of damages or loss while in the possession of the
Committee.
CHAIRMAN'S REPORT
1. Reported that one member of the Committee hasn't attended the Board and Commissions
dinner when she signed up but hasn't been to another meeting since. Some on the Committee
thought perhaps she should be removed from the Committee. Staff mentioned that perhaps the
City Secretary's office should be consulted. Council Member Donna Mickan will look in to it.
2. Bear Creek Cemetery contacted Betty Fuller again regarding re-naming the "short road" to the
property Bear Creek Cemetery Road. Key members of the Committee indicated that this
project has been completed and the sign posted on the road.
3. Thanked the City for working with the Committee on its projects. Also displayed a copy of
Euless Today with the Ex-mayors of Euless piece and other historical information.

COMMITTEE REPORTS
1. Weldon Cannon and Betty Fuller reported on the"stuff' discussed in previous months
regarding a"large" display of airport paraphernalia that was donated to UT Austin. After
hours of research, Mr. Cannon and Mrs. Fuller found that the "stuff' had been donated by UT
Austin to UT Dallas. An item of interest to the Committee is a photo of a beacon tower that
used to be located at the airport.
ADJOURNMENT
James Gathings made a motion for the meeting to adjourn. Don Martin seconded the motion. Motion
approved.
The meeting adjourned at 12:13 p.m.
