in" together on purchasing the tile.
STATUS OF CURRENT PROJECTS
1. Library Display: Betty Fuller encouraged everyone to supply smaller artifacts for the display
cases at the Library.
2. Calloway Cemetery:
A. Calloway Cemetery Association:
• David Massey reported that Bill Golden and Leon Hogg have been elected to the Board of
Trustees. Mr. Golden will help map the cemetery as he has done extensive research
pertaining to the property, etc.
• Robert Nail reported that through David Massey and the Board's fund raising effort for
the cemetery, $6,925 was raised resulting from the initial mail outs they sent. The
Committee was very pleased with the Board's efforts.
B. Historical Preservation's Calloway Subcommittee:
• Bill Byers and several members of his family along with members of the Subcommittee
met at Calloway Cemetery on Saturday, October 31, 2009 to repair the Tabernacle.
Before and after photos of the 105 year old Tabernacle were shown to the Committee.
Braces were installed in addition to other repairs and the Tabernacle is now sturdier.
David Massey donated the cedar posts that replaced the old ones and Helen Payton
donated lunch for everyone. A Boy Scout group was also at the Cemetery cleaning.
3. Donations and Acquisitions:
• Helen Gleghorn is still working on appropriate displays for the 1918 letter from King George
V of England to her uncle and the 1931 quilt she donated to the Historical Committee.
• Mrs. Fuller indicated to Bill Byers that the Fielder House Museum wants to donate some of
the items they previously reneged on giving to the Committee. Mr. Byers indicated that no,
the Committee will not take the items at this time.
• Betty Fuller will follow up with Elizabeth Wilcox regarding the donation of the first TV set
owned in Euless.

•
• Three new photos have been added to the website.
• Dan Clark displayed a photograph of the Greater Southwest Airport. The photo showed the
side of the terminal with the name "The Greater Fort Worth International Airport" on it. Mr.
Clark pointed out the difference in the name as well as compared fares, schedules, etc. from
that time to todays.
• Gary Fieldsend discussed the idea of uploading the photographs saved in the historical files to
Flickr. It will cost $25 annually for the service. This would allow the photos to be available
online allowing for a larger audience that may help identify many of the photographs on file.
A discussion was held regarding the subject. Gary Fieldsend made a motion for the
Committee to spend $25 annually for the service. Susan Ellis seconded the motion, all were in
favor, motion approved.
5. Historical Marker Project:
• It was reported that the school marker hasn't been delivered yet. Weldon Cannon began
coordinating a preliminary dedication program with all other parties concerned. The
dedication will probably not be held until spring. Betty Fuller is working on a mailing list for
ex-students of the school; several names were mentioned including Margie Neeley Massey
and Annie Florine "Tookie"Huffman-Lees. Everyone generally agreed that Tookie is the
oldest living graduate from the school.
• Regarding the Local Marker project, Mr. Cannon inquired of any additional corrections or
updates to the preliminary guidelines and application handouts discussed at last month's
meeting. Mr. Cannon will continue working with staff on the forms; he will bring them back
to December's meeting for a vote.
6. Display Signs:
• Mavy Wright is working on text for the outdoor farm implement signs. Once the text is done,
they will be given to staff so signs can be made.
7. Evolving History:
• Tom Stover met with Mike Collins, Director of Economic Development & Administrative
Services about the acquisition of a UTA intern to help with the project. It was discussed that a
proposal has to be submitted to UTA requesting the intern. He further indicated that the City
has to provide office space for the intern to work out of. Mr. Stover will follow up with staff
about the office space requirements. He will write the proposal and have key members of the
Committee proof it before submitting it. He expects that it won't be until February before an
intern is acquired to work on the project.
• Mr. Stover further reported that Weldon Cannon has compiled and provided extensive
historical information relating to "significant events" in Euless history for the project.
• Dan Clark would like to implement two parts relating to the Evolving History project. One
part should be for subjects pertaining to "Significant Events in Euless History" (i.e. DFW
International Airport's coming, integration of Euless schools, etc., etc.) The second part would
be topics relating to the "Development of Euless" (i.e. more statistical type information
including., population, tax information, major employers, development of different parks and
subdivisions, etc., etc.)
8. Historical Snippet:
• Bill Golden read a 1904 Arlington Journal article. The author mentioned visiting A.N.
Cannon's home and comparing a country burial that occurred while he visited Euless with city
burials. The Committee thought the article rather amusing and interesting.

COMMITTEE REPORTS
1. Leah Bennett is originally from Fort Worth, Texas. She has lived in Euless since 1963 and retired
from Boeing. Ms. Bennett has one daughter. She also has a granddaughter in her twenties who
lives with her. She's a member of the Euless Citizen's Police Academy. She is very interested in
history, especially the history of Euless.
2. Barbara Collier has lived in Euless for fifteen years. She is a genealogy researcher and is very
interested in all things historical.
3. Dan Clark showed the aerial photograph of Euless taken by Troy Fuller and Earnest Millican
Junior. Shown in the photograph is the Morelock Garage. David Massey was reminded that
Tubby Huffman talked about the Morelock Garage in his oral history interview. Mr. Huffman was
a pilot in the Air Force and one day he was in a training exercise that took them right over Euless.
He decided he wanted to say hello to everyone so he waited to be the last to fly out. When he got
over Euless, he swooped down over the City flying very low. Later, Luther Morelock, owner of
the Morelock Garage said "he nearly knocked his head off on the hood of the car he was tuning
up...he thought it had exploded." Mr. Huffman's superior did catch him and he got in a little bit
of trouble for his escapade. The members thought the story very amusing and interesting.
4. Weldon Cannon indicated that today is Patty's birthday. Everyone wished Ms. Benoit a happy
birthday.
5. Mr. Nail spoke with Troy Fuller. Mr. Fuller was recently in the hospital due to an illness but he's
now at home recovering.
6. Faye Stinneford reported that Helen Voss could not attend the meeting due to a conflict.

7. Mavy Wright inquired about the old well on a property near Bayless and Simmons Drive. Weldon
Cannon indicated that the well may have belonged to Dr. Boyd as he owned that land around the
1800's. The Committee noted the historical significance of the well. Gary Fieldsend will
photograph the well for the Committee's archive. It was additionally mentioned that the well may
be a perfect candidate for a local marker. Mrs. Fuller thanked Mrs. Wright for noting the
historical relevance of the well.
8. Tom Stover displayed a newspaper article about Euless Mayor, Mary Lib Saleh. The Mayor was
inducted to the H.E.B Hall of Fame.
9. Robert Nail spoke about Glenn Walkers influence and tireless help over the years with regards to
the preservation of Euless history. Mr. Walker was influential in saving the Fuller House from
demolition and the institution of the Historical Preservation Committee. Mr. Nail thanked Mr.
Walker for everything he's done for the City. Other Committee members expressed their gratitude
as well.
ADJOURNMENT
David Massey made a motion for the meeting to adjourn. Mavy Wright seconded the motion. Motion
approved.
The meeting adjourned at 11:59 a.m.
