HomeMy WebLinkAbout2007-06-07 EULESS LIBRARY BOARD MINUTES June,S!2007 7 Chairman Mike McGehee called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m. MEMBERS PRESENT STAFF PRESENT OTHERS Mike McGehee-excused Kate Lyon Barney Snitz Karan Jasper Betty Fuller LuAnn Portugal Kacey Bess Lucinda Hoffman-Garcia-absent Marcia Brown Adriane Weinstein DISPOSITION OF THE MINUTES: The Chairman asked for a motion to be made to accept the May 3, 2007 minutes with corrections. LuAnn Portugal made the motion to accept the minutes with corrections, and Kacey Bess seconded the motion. REPORT FROM THE LIBRARY ADMINISTRATOR: Kate presented the April and May monthly statistics. Our numbers continue to show increases in Circulation and database usage. Kate and Betty attended the NTRLS Assembly Meeting in Wichita Falls where Kate was presented the Project of the Year award for the Trinity High School Read poster. The clock she was presented at the time will be presented to her again at the next City Council meeting. Ray McDonald, Director of Parks and Community Services, wants to put a Reading Garden on the east side of the Library. It will have four individual gardens on the east side of the Library. Each garden will have a park bench along with beautiful landscaping. Summer Reading Club is going very well with 750 Youth and 150 Adult signed up so far. Critterman kicked off the Summer with 362 attending the program. On June 5 Ringling Brothers Circus Clowns entertained 207 children in the Youth area of the Library. Kate will be attending the ALA Conference in Washington D.C. the last week of June. We plan on applying the remainder of the Loan Star Grant money to help purchase a color printer that will be used to print our newsletters. We plan to implement parental control for checking out R-rated DVD's and Videos. We do not have any restrictions in place at this time, but Polaris will allow us the ability to make notations on patron accounts to keep children from checking out these items out without their parent's permission. Page 2 Page 2 -May 3, 2007 Library Board Minutes The Library had a space at Arbor Daze. We handed out M&M's with a sticker that says "Compliments of the Euless Public Library" on each package, bookmarks, and we had a drawing for two gardening books. Danene Hudson, Librarian in Youth, has resigned and will be moving to the Farmers Branch Library on May 9th DISCUSSIONS: Mike McGehee reported that ELF has not made a final decision on the next art project. LuAnn Portugal reported that the Incredible Pizza grand opening was a big success and this is going to be a great addition to the shopping center. Marcia Brown reported the HEB ISD Book Blast is May 4th from 4:00-8:OOpm at the Pat May Center with several authors attending. Also, author Mike Kearby was at Trinity High School on May 2"d and was a big hit with the students. Mike Kearby writes about Texas history and freedom events. CITIZEN INPUT: None ADJOURNMENT: The Chairman asked for a motion to adjourn. The motion was made by Betty Fuller and seconded by LuAnn Portugal.
