The monthly statistics continue to show increases in Circulation and database usage. The Polynesian Revue on February 12th was a huge success with 122 in attendance. There is a lot going on at the Library over the next few months with the Tea Merchants performing in the Meeting Room on March 12th, the Friends of the Library book sale is March 23rd through 25th, and National Library Week is April 15th through 21St. We will have many activities during that week starting with the Storybook Theatre's production of Amelia Bedelia in the Library Meeting Room, the 2"d Annual Edible Book Contest, and ending up with an Evening with Elmer Kelton on Saturday, April 21St. Tickets for the Elmer Kelton event are available for purchase at the Circulation Desk or through ELF. The cost is $35.00 per person which also includes dinner from North Main Bar-B-Que and musical entertainment. Sherry Knight will start working part-time in the Reference Department at a Librarian. She wants to spend more time with her children and we are happy that she will be able to stay with the Library. Kate went over the 5-Year Long Range Plan with the Board. We have completed approximately 70% of the goals and are in the process of working on the remaining items. Library will be participating in the Easter Egg Scramble. We have printed an insert for the egg that tells them to come to the Library for a prize. Page 2 - March 1, 2007 Library Board Minutes DISCUSSIONS: 1. Kacey Bess has volunteered to be the Library Board representative to the Euless Library Foundation. Mike McGehee asked for a motion for Kacey Bess to be the representative to ELF. Marcia Brown made the motion and Adriane Weinstein seconded the motion. 2. Charlie Miller commented on the diversity that the Library has to meet. He is also concerned that perhaps Library needs more computers to keep the wait time down for the patrons. He asked Kate to check and see if more computers are needed and if so he would like to see what could be done to make them available. 3. Mike McGehee would like to expand our Spanish collection but wondered if we need to look into expanding our collection into other languages. There was a brief discussion about needing to continue focusing on the Spanish collection before considering any other language needs. Spanish is by far the language spoken by most other than English. Marcia Brown said that Spanish is better for most students to study and translate back into English for testing. 4. Charlie Miller gave an update on the city and new business that is coming into the community. 5. Adriane Weinstein was very appreciative of the Library for ordering the book No Time to Lose Diet for the library collection that was written by her niece, Dr. Melina B. Jampolis, M. D. CITIZEN INPUT: None ADJOURNMENT: The Chairman asked for a motion to adjourn. The motion was made by LuAnn Portugal and seconded by Marcia Brown. The meeting was adjourned at 8:25 p.m. Respectfully Submitted Karan Jasper Recording Secretary Mike McGehee Euless Library Board Chairman
