HomeMy WebLinkAbout2005-07-07 EULESS LIBRARY BOARD MINUTES July 7, 2005 Chairman Mike McGehee called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m. MEMBERS PRESENT STAFF PRESENT OTHERS Mike McGehee JoAnn Rogers Barney Snitz Karan Jasper Betty Fuller LuAnn Portugal Chris McAllister Marcia Brown--absent Adriane Weinstein Kathy Grove Kate Lyon—excused absence DISPOSITION OF THE MINUTES: The Chairman asked for a motion to be made to accept the June minutes. Barney Snitz made the motion to accept the minutes,and Adriane Weinstein seconded the motion. REPORT FROM THE LIBRARY ADMINISTRATOR: May Statistics: Visits to the Library— 14,594 Items Checked Out—39,669 Program Attendance— 1636 JoAnn handed out Staff Picks that Ellen Collins prints out quarterly. Ellen also publishes a list of locations for wireless internet. The Library does not offer this service at this time due to security concerns to city computers. Friday,July 15`h,the Library will host"Potterpalooza"from 9pm to midnight for 50+children and their parents. Chris and Louise McAllister,JoAnn,Beverly McCalmont,and Janet Frey have planned an evening of games, face painting,magic show, food and door prizes. This is a lock-in and children will have to provide permission slips to attend and they cannot leave until a parent picks them up. Library was closed June 25th and 26th to allow the painters to come in and touch up the paint on the steel structure for Blooms of Enlightenment. Summer Reading Club is moving along well with 850 signed up this summer. We have had some really good activities and programs this year. The Fort Worth Zoo will be here on July 13`h. Discussion on ways to encourage library users to ask questions such as having the staff wear"Ask Me"buttons to let the patrons know we are available for assistance. Staffing Changes: Janet Frey, Youth Librarian,has accepted a position at Children Medical Center in Dallas to do programming in the Children's Library. Jennifer Landers,PT Library Aide,has accepted a teaching position in Grapevine. Susan Neal will be replacing Chris Dennis starting July 11`h. Susan joins us from the Bedford Library. Sherry Knight is back and she and the babies are doing good. Recommendations on filling the other vacancies will be taken to Joe Hennig soon. UNFINISHED BUSINESS: 1. Fish tank: We have only lost one fish in a year. The fish tank is very popular with the public and we will continue to add fish that are compatible to the fish that currently live in the tank. 2. Answer Zone: JoAnn is considering if we should continue to be a part of this service. 3. Bedford Library: They are open for 32 hours per week. They do not have any funds for library materials. At this time we will not consider making any recommendations to Council on our policy of service to Bedford residents. We wish to maintain a good level of customer service to our citizens. 4. Naming rooms or spaces is still being considered. NEW BUSINESS: • 1. Doors to the Library are not working consistently. Facilities is working on identifying the problem. 2. Barney wants to have the Library Board pictures to be posted again. New photos to be taken at next meeting. 3. Pictures of Barney Snitz wearing his many volunteer hats were shared. CITIZEN INPUT: None ADJOURNMENT: The Chairman asked for a motion to adjourn. The motion was made by Betty Fuller and seconded by LuAnn Portugal.
