HomeMy WebLinkAbout2005-04-14 EULESS LIBRARY BOARD MINUTES April 14, 2005 Chairman Mike McGehee called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m. MEMBERS PRESENT STAFF PRESENT OTHERS Mike McGehee JoAnn Rogers Barney Snitz—excused absence Karan Jasper--vacation Betty Fuller LuAnn Portugal Chris McAllister Marcia Brown Adriane Weinstein Kathy Grove Kate Lyon DISPOSITION OF THE MINUTES: The Chairman asked for a motion to be made to accept the February minutes(no minutes for March—meeting cancelled due to lack of quorum)with corrections. Marcia Brown made the motion to accept the minutes,and Chris McAllister seconded the motion. REPORT FROM THE LIBRARY ADMINISTRATOR: March statistics were not available. JoAnn reports that April 5th and 6th the library was closed due to fumes from the paint that was used to repaint the covers and and diffusers. The staff kept books checked in and all books were shelved before opening on Thursday, April 7t'. Library staff and City Officials will go to West Park Nursing Center on Friday,April 14th recognize Julia Petrovichs' 20 years of service with the Library. The Mayor and Joe Hennig will present her 20 Year Pin followed by cake, sandwiches,and punch in the family parlor. April is Poetry Month but the we will celebrate this in May due to scheduling of other events. May is Older Americans month and Beverly has events scheduled on each Saturday during May. Sherry Knight reported on the situation with the Bedford Library and handed out Elevator Talk. JoAnn reports that they are still in need of volunteers for Arbor Daze—especially Saturday 11:00am to 2:00pm at the North Information booth. We have received from the printer the bookmarks,brochures and business cards for Answer Zone. A Euless librarian covers 4 hours each Friday morning for Answer Zone. UNFINISHED BUSINESS: 1. Flower beds and drainage issue project is now completed. Lots of sand has been added and the landscaping will grow back. 2. Marcia Brown made a motion that meeting rooms,board room,study rooms,and benches be considered for areas to recognize special library supporters. Adrian Weinstein second the motion 3. Betty Fuller made a motion that the Library Board recommend to the City Council that a special garden area be designated in honor of Willie Mae McCormick. 4. JoAnn will take the recommendation to Council for consideration on April 27t. NEW BUSINESS: 1. Library Board members provided a staff appreciation breakfast in honor of Library Appreciation Week. 2. Some furniture pieces are wearing out and re-upholstery will be recommended in the budget 3. Library Foundation is not having a Casino Night this year. Fall fund raiser will be an evening with Kinky Friedman at Delaney Vineyards on November 12,2005. 4. Installation of Blooms is on schedule for June/July. Several events for everyone involved and a dedication and unveiling of the art in August. CITIZEN INPUT: None ADJOURNMENT: The Chairman asked for a motion to adjourn.
